What are we? (A Pazzi story)

Chapter 1

BACKGROUND
Paige and Azzi have been best friends for the longest time. All the way back to their Team USA days. They even quarantined together during Covid in 2020.

Both the girls now play for the UConn WBB team, and are doing really good in this season.

Azzi, Paige, KK, Caroline, Aubrey, and Ice are all hanging out in KK and Ice's dorm/apartment.

CURRENTLY
"Bro. I'm so bored. Can we go live or something?" Ice requests. Her and Paige have been playing Fortnite together for the past hour and are starting to get bored.

"YES! Buttt not on my account. I got banned again for not looking old enough. TikTok is for real my biggest opp." KK responds excitedly. She's had now been banned on TikTok three times for looking underage and all the other girls always make fun of her for it.

"We can use my account," Aubrey responds, not seeming quite as excited as the other girls, "I haven't gone live in a while."

Everyone agreed, and the team went live on Aubrey's account. Ice and Paige were still playing Fortnite, finishing up their match. Azzi and Caroline had to move to get into the frame. Ice and Paige were on the couch, Azzi on a beanbag chair, KK in a chair with Caroline sitting on the arm of the same chair, and Aubrey on a different chair.

KK started reading the chats from fans. "Who is the best at fortnite?" She reads. "Definitely me." She says, responding to her own question. Aubrey lets out a laugh, knowing that KK is always the first dead when they play as a team.

"Oh HECK nah KK. It's definitely me first and Ice right after" Paige responds confidently.

"You know I would beat you every day of the week if I actually decided to play." Azzi combats with a smirk on her face. She's only ever played once, when Paige and her brothers teamed up to peer pressure her around a year ago. Azzi beat them all by hiding in a tree until the last minutes.

"You and me both know that was all luck. I'd beat you EASYYY." Paige argues, looking up from her game for the first time that round, right at Azzi.

"Fine! If you're suchhh a sore loser, I will" Azzi responds still making eye contact with Paige.

Ice and Paige finish their round, coming in second in Duos. Azzi and Paige decide to play Duos too, so they can see who's better but also 'dominate.' Azzi has to move to be able to see the TV screen, so her and Ice switch seats.

The second Azzi sits down Paige feels their legs touch. The not so familiar feeling of butterflies in her stomach swarms over her. She tries her best to keep her composure. The blonde girl knows she shouldn't feel like this. Azzi has been her best friend forever. They could never be more than that, could they? Why was she suddenly having these feelings for Azzi.

The game starts and the girls quickly killed two other teams. Azzi wants to go hide but Paige convinces her to stay and hunt down other teams. The two girls ended up winning the game after a rough last couple of minutes.

Paige and Azzi start cheering, followed by laughing from the other girls. Azzi stands up and pulls Paige into a celebratory hug. Paige gets kind of flustered, but quickly composes herself and wraps her arms tightly around Azzi, still laughing.

BACK TO THE TEAM
KK starts to giggle reading the comments. She as well as most of the other girls can tell that Paige and Azzi like each other. They've all been waiting for something to happen for a while.

"Hey Paige, can I talk to you in the other room? I wanna ask you about something." Caroline asks, kind of smirking at Paige. Paige nods, and follows her to the other room, thinking it was kind of weird because the two don't talk often. Caroline was really close to Azzi, because they're in the same year.

They get to KK's room and close the door. "What's up?" Paige asks, curious.

"Girl, you have to make a move. It's sooo obvious you like her" Caroline says, sitting on the edge of the bed. Paige's face goes bright red.

"Uhh, I don't know who you're talking about." Paige responds in a hurry. The edges of her lips starting to turn up at the mention of Azzi.

"You and me both know exactly who I'm talking about. I saw how red and flushed your face got when she hugged you. And just now when I mentioned her. You're down bad Paige." Caroline says with a giggle.

Paige pauses for a second before deciding to give in, "Okay, I don't know. I feel like I shouldn't like her. We've been such good friends for so long and I don't want to loose that. What if she doesn't feel the same way? I don't want to make her uncomfortable, but I can't help how she makes me feel, you know?" The blonde puts her head in her hands, not knowing what she's supposed to be feeling. She's never liked a girl before, but she couldn't deny her feelings.

Caroline gets a little more serious, seeing how much stress this is causing Paige. "Paige, as far as I can tell she feels the same way. If you don't feel comfortable enough yet to make a move, don't. don't push it, just wait for the time to come. I promise it will. You two are literally perfect for each other." Caroline says, comforting Paige.

Paige looks up from her hands with a smile on her face and rosy red cheeks. "You actually think she might like me?" Paige asks, the smile on her face only getting bigger.

"That's for you to find out"
