Ella's POV
I was standing in front of her. She slowly raised her head and looked straight at me. Our eyes met, and then she burst into tears, holding onto my arms, trying not to fall off the bench she was sitting on. I moved closer to her and gave her a gentle tap on the back. I took off my jacket and put it around her because she was freezing, and then the snow slowly began to fall to the ground.
Then the fireworks started lighting up the sky, and everybody was clapping and shouting, "Merry Christmas."
The atmosphere seemed perfect, with one of the best locations to celebrate Christmas. After a few bursts of tears, she gradually started to calm down and silently tried to take a deep breath.
She took off the jacket and handed it back to me.
"It's okay... just wear it... you seem to be freezing," I said, but she insisted. I couldn't let her freeze to death.
"I'm fine... I still have a jacket on, while you only have a shirt," I said, and I put it back on her.
Umupo ako sa tabi niya, and I just sat there, saying nothing. All I could hear from her was a small, deep breath.
"The fireworks are beautiful... take this moment to appreciate what's in front of you. I don't know what you've been through, but... the fireworks represent hope and light in the darkest days of our lives," I said, and she just stared blankly.
We had been sitting there for hours, and we hadn't said a word. She didn't say anything either, and I didn't know how to console her... maybe my presence would help.
She stood up and faced me. "Thank you," she said, handing back the jacket I had given her.
Still, I insisted that she wear it, and she sighed. Nag"thank you" ulit siya, then she turned around, and gradually, I lost sight of her while the people around us were busy looking at the stalls and celebrating Christmas with their friends.
"Merry Christmas to me," I said to myself, realizing I had missed all the calls from my family earlier.
I called them back, and it was good to see them on the video. I missed them a lot.
"Ang saya po dito Mommy.. Sayang wala kayo dito.. Next time.. magkakasama tayong pupunta dito ha" sabi ko sa kanila ni Kuya Jorenz
"Nakow Pot.. mag iipon kami para makapunta tayo jan" Kuya said and excited ako sa isipin na makakasama ko sila next time dito.
"Anong handa??" tanong ko nalang at pinakita nga nila mga kunting handa sa bahay kasi sila sila lang din naman
"Ikaw Jan?" tanong ni Mommy
"Makikikain lang ako sa mga free foods dito," I said, then I laughed. After a few chats with them, we ended the call, and I started to walk around the stalls and free food stands.
I used to be far away from them, but not this far.
I remember the face of the girl from earlier who cried a lot. I hope she's fine.
Nag stay pa ako sa labas then nagpunta akosa Z'Alt Hischi bar. Ang hirap naman basahin para akong na bibilaukan. Small pub but perfect. It is located on one of the busiest streets in Zermatt, but the ambience inside is that of a quaint village pub.
I ordered the well-known advocaat to warm me up, and my eyes were roaming around.
The girl I saw earlier was sitting in the corner, staring blankly outside the window. She might be waiting for someone.
I ordered another advocaat and asked the bartender to give it to the girl in the corner, letting her know it's on the house.
