"MOON!" Nexus' mom yells from downstairs.

Nexus groans loudly in annoyance, he hates mornings.

What made it even worse was that his mom was using his birth name again. He told her multiple times that he doesn't want to be called that.

"MOON!" His mom yells louder, obviously angry.

Nexus flinches and sits up in his bed. The light from his window is blinding and it makes his room look too vibrant. He hates vibrant things.

"I'm coming, Mom!" Nexus shouts back, mumbling curses under his breath.

He gets out of his bed and closes his curtains, making sure no more light besides what is needed to see enters his room.

After he closed the curtains he instantly went over to his wooden closet. It was covered in drawings from when he was younger and lots of stains from numerous things Nexus probably wouldn't even be able to name.

He sighs and opens his closet, blinking groggily at the variety of clothes. There were barely any clothes that he liked left, as he had already worn most of them. It wasn't unusual. After all, it was the second week of high school.

"Great, just great," Nexus mumbles, rubbing his eyes.

He starts rummaging through the hanging clothes as well as the ones that have fallen on the floor or got tangled with the random items below them.

Finally, after searching for what felt like an eternity, he pulled out some randomly chosen clothes and sighed again.

"MOON GET DOWN HERE NOW!" Nexus flinches again and almost drops the clothes in his hands, catching himself just before they slipped out of his grip.

"OKAY, OKAY," Nexus shouts back, quickly changing his clothes.

Afterwards he looks in the mirror, feeling more miserable than ever. Before Nexus' mom has a chance to yell at him again, he rushes down the stairs.

As usual, the kitchen is pristine and sparkling. It's so clean it feels as if the entire area is shining. Nexus sits down on a wooden stool in front of the polished marble counter. He sets his head down in his arms and just sits there for a bit.

"Moon? Are you out of your room finally?" His mom asks as she walks into the kitchen, wiping her hands on a towel.

"Yeah, I'm sitting right here," Nexus says through his arm. His voice is muffled, but still understandable.

His mom's expression softens and she smiles faintly. She goes over to the sink and grabs the sponge, beginning to scrub the dishes.

Nexus closes his eyes and listens to the comforting sound of water running, paying attention to every little noise and imagining the world around him in his head. It's something he likes to do often, although most people tell him it's weird.

The water suddenly stops as his mom turns the faucet off. She places the last dish in the drying rack and wipes her hands on the towel draped over the handle to the oven.

"Take a fruit so you have something else to eat while I make you breakfast. That's an order." She says it almost commandingly, but she's smiling and there is a hint of teasing in her voice.

Nexus, without opening his eyes, reaches forward and takes an apple from the basket on the table. He bites into it and savors the juicy, sweet yet sour flavor of the apple as he continues to lean on the cold counter.

His mom takes out dishes and other various ingredients, then begins to make some breakfast.

Nexus groggily stares off into the distance, lost in thought. He does this quite often, and he's lost track of time a lot.

"Moon? Are you still alive?" His mom asks jokingly.

Nexus groans and sits up, propping up his head with his harm. "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," Nexus responds.

His mom sighs and pulls out a pan and some eggs.

"Get your stuff together. The bus leaves soon."

The high school building was a big one, for sure. It towered over many of the smaller buildings in the area.

Now obviously the building was much larger than any person, but to Nexus..

It felt too big. As if it was a un-passable barrier that was holding Nexus back. He didn't know why he felt this way, but he did know that it made him feel extremely uncomfortable for some unknown reason.

There was an unnecessary—in Nexus' opinion—amount of stairs leading up to the dramatic wooden doors of the school. Metal railing divide the large stairs into three sections. A couple of bushes and different plants lined the sides of the school.

Some kid rams into Nexus.

"OOF-"

Nexus falls over and roughly lands on the ground. Thankfully, he just got to the top of the stairs.

"Oh, gosh, sorry Nexus!" A familiar, high pitched voice says. It has a British accent that anyone can recognize.

"It's.. it's fine, Ruin," Nexus responds, standing up and brushing himself off. He takes off his goggles that were lying on his head and places them around his neck. "What are you doing here? I thought you were going to River Valley High School."

Ruin smiles nervously and laughs. He stood almost half a foot taller than Nexus, and it irritated him.

"Well, I think you got some wrong information. I've been going here for the past two years, Nexie." Ruin responds, his short red and yellow shawl blowing in the wind. It draped elegantly over his shoulders, and the weirdly fancy turtleneck at the top was folded slightly near the yellow stripe.

Nexus groans. "I told you to stop calling me that, Ruin."

"Alright, if you insist. I just thought it was a cute nickname!" Ruin's smile fades slightly. "Solar was.. always... good at making nicknames." Ruin looks off into the distance, holding his arm tightly. Nexus felt a wave of sadness wash over him at the mention of his dead brother, but he tried to ignore it.

"Yeah, he was," Nexus mumbles. "Although him screaming 'Ru-Ru!' would get annoying sometimes."

Ruin's face goes red as the embarrassment hits him like a truck. "Y-you heard that?"

Nexus rolls his eyes. "Yeah, I did. Every. Friday."

Ruin went silent, his fans buzzing so loud it could be heard all around them. He continued to stare at Nexus for a while before finally exclaiming, "O-oh, well we should head inside now. Don't want to be late, right?"

I roll my eyes playfully and nod. "Yeah, I guess."
