Dazai sat heavily in an old chair, holding a cold beer bottle while staring at the rope hanging from the ceiling. It swayed slightly, almost as if it was teasing him. The dim light in the room created shadows that moved around him.

A thought crossed his mind: maybe today would be the day everything ended, the day he could finally rest. He sighed deeply, tilted the bottle back to finish the last bitter sip of beer, and set it down on his messy desk among scattered papers and forgotten memories.

He took off his coat and threw it onto the unmade bed, reflecting his chaotic state of mind. He moved the chair, scraping its legs against the floor until it was positioned right under the rope—the final step in his plan.

"I don’t know what I'll do if I wake up after this," he whispered to the empty room, his voice low with fear and acceptance.

He turned back to his desk, checking to make sure everything was in order. Each letter he wrote sat neatly in a pile, the ink still fresh with his final thoughts. He felt a strange relief; he had cleaned the house, organized his life, and written all his goodbyes.

Now, with the weight of his choices on him, he realized there was nothing left to do but take the leap into the unknown. The moment had come....

Chuuya stirred awake, his senses assaulted by the shrill ringtone of his phone slicing through the early morning stillness. Blinking against the harsh, artificial light of the bedside clock, he groaned in annoyance. "Who the hell is calling me at 6 in the morning?" he grumbled, his voice thick with sleep as he dragged himself up to a sitting position. Reaching for his phone, the name "Mori" glared back at him, drawing a frustrated sigh from his lips.

With a resigned roll of his eyes, he answered the call, pressing the device to his ear while trying to shake off the remnants of slumber. "Hello?" he managed to murmur, irritation lacing his quiet groan.

"Chuuya, Dazai tried to kill himself again," Mori's voice crackled through, urgent and tense.

Chuuya pinched the bridge of his nose, exasperation pouring over him. "When does he not? Why is this my problem? He pulls this stunt every other week," he retorted, leaning against the headboard, feeling the rough texture of the wall against his back.

But Mori's next words sent a shiver down his spine. "...This time, he's in the hospital. It's pretty serious."

Chuuya felt a cold knot forming in his gut, the playful edge in his voice evaporating. "How bad?" he asked, now fully alert, sitting up straight, eyes wide in the dim morning light.

Mori paused momentarily, the weight of the news settling heavily in the silence. "He has a hangman's fracture and a broken arm. Apparently, once he was passed out, the rope broke, and he fell right onto his arm."

Chuuya's heart sank at the thought, a mix of worry and irritation roiling within him as he struggled to process the implications of Dazai's reckless behavior once again.

"Okay, I get that he's in rough shape, but why on earth are you calling me?" Chuuya questioned, a hint of irritation in his voice as he pushed the warm, rumpled covers aside and swung his legs off the bed. The morning light filtered weakly through the curtains, illuminating the disarray of his room. On the other end of the line, Mori's calm voice cut through the silence.

"For starters, you know Dazai better than most people in his life. I need you to be there for him while he's recovering, just in case anything goes wrong," he explained, his tone all business.
