Everything is so boring.

Niko Matsumoto, an understudy of Pharmaceutical Scientist Ohkuba Hayashi, was an incredibly smart student from elementary up until now, his sophomore year in college. In fact, he was so smart that he skipped 2 grades and passed every exam with almost unbelievable ease.
Niko had plenty of academic rivals in the past, but none of them were fit enough to be considered an equal. That, right there, is what made him bored. He didn't have anyone to make him feel challenged. He didn't have anyone that really understood the way he thought. All his life, he viewed the world and its logic as stupid, yet he didn't know what to do to change that.

"Alright, after you add this herb here, you get the vaccine for tetanus. Got it, Niko?" Ohkuba turned around, looking at his understudy, who was sitting in a lab chair, daydreaming.
"Niko? Hello? Were you even paying attention at all? I'm not making that vaccine again just because you missed it," the older man scolded, crossing his arms.

"No, I didn't miss it," Niko replied blankly, "I simply just don't care. What's the point in all this? If a person is sick, why not just let them die. There's no point in keeping a person with a weak body alive."
"Niko, how many times do I have to tell you to stop talking like that? This is for the good of the people. Families don't want to lose a loved one to an illness, so it's our job as scientists to come up with vaccines to save them. After all, we are getting paid a hefty sum to do so," Ohkuba walked over to Niko, standing over him.
"I must know. Why is it that you think like this? I understand you're a prodigy and all, but I really want to hear your reasoning. Maybe I'll be able to see your perspective, kiddo"

Niko looked off into the corner of the room, his eyes landing on the stored test tubes and flasks.
"I don't have a reason, really. I've always thought this way," he murmured as eyes trailed back to the man in front of him.
Ohkuba, sighing, turned back around and pulled off his gloves. "Well, if you really don't know, there's no point in trying to pry more information out of you. I guess you can go back to your dorm. That's it for the day."

Niko pushed himself out of the chair, stepping to leave the room.

"I'm going to cure the world of the disease called ignorance."
