Taehyung is fishing a cigarette from the inside pocket of his jacket as he makes his way out of the third piano room in the corridor, when he hears the frustrated growl followed by an angry hitting of random piano keys.
His first reaction is to scowl at the way the piano in the first room is being abused.
Then, he vaguely thinks he should let this go and just keep walking, get out of the conservatory, because it's almost eight and the music college is about to close and he's starving.
But he knows who is in the room, he knows what the person's doing, and there's just no way he'll pass the opportunity. So he traces his steps back through the corridor, walking past the closed doors of rooms three and two, and then stops in front of room one, trying to peek inside from the small crack in the not completely closed door.
He grins, because the mere sight of Jeon Jungkook sitting at a piano is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
Jeon Jungkook is a violin major. He shouldn't even be allowed next to pianos. That is Taehyung's spot, in his favourite room, at his favourite piano in the whole music college building. The thought that his favourite room had been booked by none other than Jeon Jungkook makes his blood boil, and he would like to just barge in and pull his hair in retaliation like they're five on a playground, but he can think of a better retaliation than that.
He pushes the door open enough to enter, not making any sound, and he's greeted by the sight of Jeon Jungkook's back, stretching a ridiculous shirt with clouds printed all over a blue background. His hair seems to have been tied in that stupid bun for a long time, because the bun is messy and a series of hair is escaping it. His ass looks nice while he sits on the stool.
My fucking stool, Taehyung thinks with an internal snarl.
The thing is that he hates Jeon Jungkook, with a passion, and he knows the feeling's mutual.
They've done nothing but spite each other, tantalize each other with snarky comments and judge each other's musical abilities since they met a year earlier. The game has gotten old for all their peers, who automatically roll their eyes whenever they catch sight of Taehyung and Jeon passing each other in the hallways of the conservatory or in one of the small paths through the fairly big yards around it. People roll their eyes at their feud even when they're not doing anything, sometimes.
The game has gotten old, but not for these both idiots.
For Taehyung, Jungkook is still a stupid violin major who doesn't know how to use his talent and wastes it on a daily basis.
For Jungkook, Taehyung is still a presumptuous piano major who thinks that he's better than any musician just because the piano is the most complete instrument. Which is true, and Taehyung doesn't even know how that can be an argument, but with Jeon Jungkook, anything can be an argument. Even fucking Mozart, on whom there's literally nothing to argue.
But now, Jeon Jungkook is fussing over a piano with what look like Chopin music scores to Taehyung, and he has to force back a fucking giggle, because violinists have to take two mandatory piano exams at the conservatory, and while Jeon Jungkook did his first before even meeting Taehyung, his second is gonna be soon and he's struggling with it.
Almighty Jeon fucking Jungkook, struggling with piano. Taehyung tries not to gloat, because he wants to reserve that for when Jungkook will see him.
Taehyung takes a couple steps towards Jungkook, and Jungkook, oblivious to the company, sighs and brushes his face with his hands. "I can do this I can do this, " he mutters. "It's just fucking Chopin on a fucking piano, how hard can it be?"
Taehyung arches an eyebrow. How hard can it be. He has to physically restrain himself from scoffing.
Jungkook cracks his back and shoulders, the shirt stretching around his muscles, and then tries to loosen up his hands by waving them in the air before starting the piece.
