Elijah's determination to uncover Rory's past intensified. Grandfather's words echoed: "Uncover her secrets, Elijah. Our alliance depends on it."

One evening, Elijah confronted Rory in Wynter Manor's moonlit garden, serene yet treacherous.

"Your evasiveness fuels my curiosity," Elijah said, voice firm but controlled. "What hides behind those captivating eyes?"

Rory's smile faltered, her gaze darting toward Alex's distant figure. "Nothing concerns you, Elijah."

"Everything about you concerns me," Elijah countered, eyes blazing. "Our union's success hinges on trust."

Rory scoffed, her voice tinged with disdain. "Trust? You mean control?"

Elijah's jaw clenched, his fists tightening. "Protecting you is my duty."

"Protection or possession?" Rory shot back, defiance sparkling in her eyes.

The air thickened with tension as they stood beneath the ancient oak tree, its branches like skeletal fingers.

"Alex knows more about me than you," Rory taunted, her words dripping venom.

Elijah's eyes narrowed, his face inches from Rory's. "Is that a challenge?"

Rory turned to leave, but Elijah grasped her arm firmly.

"Release me!" Rory demanded, her voice echoing through the garden.

"Never," Elijah whispered, his breath against her ear. "You're mine now."

Rory's eyes flashed hatred, her struggles intensifying.

Alex appeared, his presence a spark to the powder keg. "Elijah, let go!"

Elijah released Rory, his gaze locked on Alex in warning. "Mind your own business."

Rory seized the interruption, her voice icy. "This isn't over, Elijah."

As she stormed off, Elijah's resolve hardened. Uncovering Rory's secrets became an obsession.
