Rory's POV:
I delved deeper into Elijah's mysterious past with Alex's help. Documents and interviews revealed his impressive business prowess and unwavering loyalty to Grandfather. Yet, his personal life remained an enigma.
At Wynter Manor, Elijah's presence unnerved me. His piercing gaze seemed to read my thoughts, and his proximity sent shivers down my spine.
One evening, Alex joined me in the garden. Elijah appeared, eyes narrowing as he took in Alex's casual hand on my shoulder.
"Enjoying the evening?" Elijah asked, tone crisp with undercurrents of tension.
Alex smiled. "Yeah, thanks."
Elijah's gaze lingered on Alex's hand, his jaw clenched. "Rory, may I have a word?"
"Privately?" I asked.
Elijah nodded, his eyes never leaving Alex.
As we strolled through the garden, Elijah's silence grew heavy.
"Your closeness to Alex bothers me," Elijah admitted, voice low and controlled.
I bristled. "You have no right."
Elijah's eyes flashed. "As your fiancé, I do. Our union will be more than business."
His possessiveness startled me. "You barely know me."
"I know enough," Elijah countered. "You're mine now."
His words sent a shiver through me. Was this protection or control?
"Alex is my best friend," I clarified.
Elijah's gaze intensified. "Friendship or more?"
"None of your business," I retorted.
Elijah stepped closer, his breath warm against my ear. "Everything about you is my business, Rory."
His possessiveness ignited conflicting emotions: unease and curiosity.
