1: Great to be back

"Hi everyone, it's great to be back in class with all of you. I just wanted to say that I've missed being here for the past two weeks because I was undergoing treatment. I really missed all of you and I hope we can catch up on all the lessons we've missed and stay on track to finish the syllabus before the semester break. I know it might be a bit challenging, but I believe that we can work together as a team to make it happen. Let's support each other and stay focused on our goals. I'm excited to dive back into our studies and learn together with all of you. Let's make the most of our time together in class and make this semester a successful one. Thank you for all your support and understanding during this time. Let's do this!"

"Whatever you are going through right now Sir, we are hoping that you can get back on track because we want to learn from you, we couldn't think of another professor that is so passionate at the same time compassionate like you" One of my students Thelma told me before I started the class. A wave of emotion washed over me. It was like a balm for the pain I was going through, a reminder that there are people who care and support me. In that moment, I felt a sense of relief that I hadn't felt in a long time.

"Oh right! Sure, I promise I will never absent again" And I wipe the small tears trying to escape the lids of my eyes.

As I searched the room full of excited young faces, my gaze fell on Dereck, a kid who distinguished out for his blank expression. It was difficult not to notice him, especially since he is the son of the School's President. Despite being in his fourth course, Dereck still looked like a 20-year-old boy, which never ceases to amaze me. Time had clearly taken its toll on Dereck, as his classmates had aged while he remained the same. His aging in class served as a harsh reminder of the passage of time, in contrast to his seemingly youthful face. As I looked at him, I was left wondering what circumstances had shaped him into having that blank face.
