"I thought love would be easier after marriage..." Y/N's voice is soft, barely a whisper, as she watches the sun set over Jeju Island's serene ocean. The wind plays with her hair, but the peace of the moment is at odds with the turmoil in her heart. She looks to her side, where Taehyung stands, his hands in his pockets, gaze distant.
"You're thinking too much again," Taehyung teases, forcing a small grin. "Come on, Mrs. Kim, we've been through worse." His words carry a hint of playfulness, but Y/N doesn't smile like she used to.
She sighs, turning away. "It's not the same anymore."
Their days of light-hearted teasing, of silly arguments that ended with one of them laughing, feel like distant memories. Now, their disagreements linger in the air like unsaid apologies. Nights on the couch, silent dinners, and unresolved tension have replaced the easy love they once shared.
Taehyung's voice cuts through her thoughts. "When did we stop being us?" The words are raw, unguarded-something he hasn't allowed himself to say until now.
Y/N doesn't answer, just walks ahead. The streets of Jeju are familiar; every corner, every shop holds a memory. Memories of them, laughing, holding hands, dreaming of a future together. She blinks back tears as they reach the small temple where years ago, a younger, carefree Taehyung had made her a promise.
"In front of Buddha, I swear," he had said with that mischievous grin she loved so much. "I'll marry you one day, Jung Y/N."
The flash of that memory hits her hard. She turns to look at him now, but the Taehyung standing in front of her isn't the same man from that day. His eyes, once full of light, now carry the weight of their unresolved pain.
"Do you remember what you promised me?" Y/N's voice trembles, breaking the silence between them.
Taehyung exhales deeply, stepping closer. "I remember everything." His eyes soften as they meet hers. "But promises are easy, Y/N. Keeping them... that's where it gets hard."
They stand there, outside the temple, both struggling with their emotions. She wants to believe him, to trust in the love they had, but doubts cloud her mind.
"Do you think we can find our way back?" he asks quietly, his vulnerability laid bare.
Y/N wipes at the tear threatening to fall, her voice barely above a whisper. "I don't know, Tae."
For a moment, neither of them speaks. They just stand together, letting the weight of the past and their uncertain future settle between them.
But as the wind picks up and the sun begins to set behind them, there's a sense that this journey-this rediscovery of love-has only just begun.
