The Abyss of Horizons

Five friends set off on a journey to an uncharted planet, eager for adventure. The lush, mysterious world called Erevos was a scientific anomaly—a planet that defied the known laws of physics. Time moved strangely there, and explorers warned that no two days ever felt the same. But the group, driven by thrill and camaraderie, dismissed these tales as superstition.

After landing, the planet's beauty was beyond words: skies that shimmered in impossible colors, forests with trees that seemed to hum with energy, and a sea that reflected stars brighter than any they had ever seen. They spent days hiking, laughing, and marveling at the wonders of the alien world.

But soon, small things began to feel wrong.

Jen, the biologist, noticed the trees moving when no wind was blowing. Omar, the pilot, saw the stars in the night sky rearrange themselves in cryptic patterns. No matter how much distance they covered during the day, the landscape seemed to loop back on itself, as if the planet were a labyrinth. Tensions rose, but they pressed on, determined to find their way back to the ship.

One evening, during their seventh day—or was it their seventeenth?—strange figures appeared in the distance. They looked exactly like the friends themselves but moved awkwardly, their eyes hollow and dark. Fear gripped them. Had they lost track of time so deeply that these were versions of themselves from different timelines? Were these copies, or worse—shadows of a future they could no longer escape?

The planet’s influence began to twist their minds. Each member of the group started seeing visions of the others plotting against them. Trust crumbled, friendships unraveled, and their once-solid bond was replaced by paranoia. Jen swore she heard whispers from the trees, telling her to run. Omar claimed the stars were spelling out his doom. Even the sky seemed to laugh at their fragile sanity.

On their final day, only one of them—Max—made it back to the ship. He punched in the coordinates for Earth with trembling hands, but as the engines roared to life, the reflection in the glass showed something horrifying: his face had become hollow, just like the figures they had seen.

Max wasn't sure if he was still himself—or if the planet had taken something more than just time.
