"What's the password?"The bouncer's voice boomed over the thumbing bass spilling from the club.
Jacob looked at the slip of paper in his hand, then back up at the bouncer. "It's 'Serendipity', with an 'S'."
The bouncer nodded and unclipped the velvet rope, allowing Jacob to pass. The club's name, "Crimson Echoes," was written in bold neon letters above the entrance. He stepped inside, the smell of expensive cologne and perfume mingling with the faint scent of leather and sweat. The music washed over him like a wave, the rhythm pulsing in his chest. He felt a rush of excitement, mixed with a hint of nerves. This was his first blind date, set up by a friend who had sworn it was a foolproof way to find "The One."
Jacob's eyes scanned the dimly lit room, looking for the person he was supposed to meet. The dance floor was a sea of moving bodies, lights flashing in time with the music. He spotted a table with a single rose in a vase, a note next to it that read, "For Lin's date." He took a deep breath and approached, his heart racing. The chair was already pulled out, waiting for him. He sat down, feeling the cool leather under his palms.
Moments later, a figure emerged from the shadows. She was breathtaking, with long raven hair and piercing emerald eyes. She moved with an ethereal grace that seemed almost otherworldly. Her smile was soft, yet something in the way she looked at him made Jacob's skin crawl. It was a smile that promised secrets and dark, twisted games. He knew instantly that she was Lin.
As she slid into the chair opposite him, Jacob felt his heart skip a beat. Her touch was electric, sending shivers down his spine. "Hi," she whispered, her voice a siren's call. "You must be Jacob."
He nodded, trying to play it cool. "And you're Lin?"
"In the flesh," she replied, her eyes never leaving his. Her gaze was intense, as if she could see straight through him.
Jacob felt a bead of sweat trickle down the back of his neck. "So, what do you do, Lin?" he asked, trying to ease the tension.
"I'm an artist," she said, her smile growing slightly wider. "I create sculptures that speak to the soul."
Jacob nodded, trying to keep the conversation flowing. "That's interesting. What kind of materials do you work with?"
Lin leaned in closer, her breath warm against his cheek. "Human emotions," she murmured, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "But don't worry, I only capture them in clay for now."
Jacob's phone rang, the sound piercing through the cacophony of the club. He glanced at the screen, not recognizing the number. With a flicker of annoyance, he decided to ignore it. "Sorry," he mouthed to Lin, placing the phone face down on the table.
Her smile never wavered. "It's alright," she said, her hand reaching out to cover his. Her grip was firm, almost possessive. "I'm all the company you need tonight."
Jacob felt a strange mix of comfort and unease. The phone's vibration grew insistent, buzzing against the table like a trapped bee. He made a move to grab it, but Lin's eyes flashed, a silent warning. He hesitated, then decided to ignore it once more.
As the night grew later, Jacob found himself drawn into Lin's world. Her stories were mesmerizing, full of passion and intensity. She spoke of love and obsession, of the beauty in pain and the allure of the forbidden. He couldn't help but feel a thrill at the edge in her voice, a hint of something darker beneath the surface.
The phone rang again, more insistently this time. Jacob's curiosity got the better of him, and he reached for it. But before he could even look at the screen, Lin's hand was there, sliding the glass of whiskey in front of him. "Don't answer that," she purred, her thumb brushing against his. "Not now. Not here."
