Footsteps 2

Chapter 1

Connor let out a long sigh and let his whole body fall on the bench. Jenny giggled and hit Mika slightly with her elbow. He looked up from his phone. "Hm?" "Nothing, I just don't want you to walk around like a zombie with that phone!" Connor unzipped his green jacket,which his dad used to own. "Yeah. You've been glued to that shit for the whole day!" Mika laughed awkwardly and put his phone in (one of his many pockets) on his pants. "I'm just waiting for the answer to my application.." Jenny raised a brow and then jumped with wide open arms towards Mika. "You finally applied for something?? That's awesome!!" He gave her a small hug. "Yeah. I- We need money.." "What did you apply for? Like,don't leave me in the dark." Mika and Jenny now also sat down on the bench. Jenny started to search something in her bag and eventually got a pack of cigarettes out. She put one between her lips and got a red lighter out; it was decorated with small, yellow stars. "Ehem. Oh dear beautiful and dearest Jenny. May I have a drag of that tasty looking cigarette?" Mika asked, while sitting kneeled down in front of her. Connor just stared at him without saying anything. "..." Jenny held her cigarette towards Mika. "Naturally. It is my pleasure to please your needs, with this very expensive cigarette!" "You guys are forgetting me."

After Connor also smoked a cigarette, the three started to get bored yet again. "Isn't there this new store around the corner?" Mika asked while he packed his bottle back in his bag. "Yes, I think the name was...uhh.." Jenny scratched her head. "It's Abby's store!" Connor threw in and so they started walking towards the store. The store had opened just a few weeks ago and none of them had seen it before. It was small, but had a big variety of sweets, groceries and even some alcoholic drinks. Connor stood in front of them and looked at the brands. Mika raised a brow and came towards him. He let out a sigh. "Is he seriously drinking again?" "Yeah.. He isn't feeling so well at the moment." Connor replied while sighing as well. Edward's mentality had never been so bad as now. "Anyways, I like this store. What about you guy–" "SHHH!" Jenny shushed him and then pointed at a masked guy near the entrance. He was carrying a gun. "Holy shit..." Mika whispered while hiding behind a shelf with Jenny and Connor.

There was a girl near the masked guy, she was about their age, had not somehow noticed him and was pushed on the floor. Something fell on the ground. "Stay on the ground!" The guy had a deep voice and turned his head towards the cashier. Meanwhile, the girl was trying to find something on the floor. "Did she not hear him?!.." Jenny whispered to the others. "She's deaf.." "What?" Mika pointed at the hearing aid laying on the floor. The cashier was putting the money in a dark brown bag, while the masked one was holding her at gun point. He saw the girl stand up in the corner of his eye, and immediately turned around to her. "I SAID GET ON THE GROUND!" The girl couldn't really get a word out– a lot of deaf people struggle with speech– she just raised her hands and swallowed. "Ahhh shitttt... We gotta do something!" Jenny said while looking around in the area, to find some useful stuff. "Fuck.. My phone's dead, I can't call my dad!" Connor said while holding up his phone.  "I know something. Stay here." Mika crouched towards the shelf with the alcoholic drinks. Jenny mouthed "What are you doing??"  towards Mika, though he ignored it. He got a bottle of champagne and crouched back.
"Okay, please work..." He whispered to himself, while using his pocket knife to open the bottle. The bottle cap flew towards the guy, like in those action movies. All of the three stared at it with open mouths. None of them expected it to work.

The bottle cap hit the masked guy's arm and he turned around to see where it came from. Mika let the bottle drop and it crashed on the ground. The glass splitter and blood splatter flew in every direction, so Jenny and Connor covered their faces. Mika had been shot. The bullet was between his rib cages right in his lungs, it nearly had hit his heart. "OH MY GOD, MIKA!!" Jenny screamed up and pressed down on the bleeding wound. Mika was pressing against it as well. He had trouble breathing and was already spitting out blood.
His vision quickly got blurry before he fully blacked out. The ringing of the loud gun shot echoes through everyone's ears. Connor looked to the place where the masked man had stood and realised that he had disappeared.

Outside, behind the store was the man. He was supporting himself with the wall and after a short time his whole body started to move and change it's shape. He ripped the mask off and gritted his teeth. It was clear that the man was in pain and afterwards he collapsed on the floor. Instead of the a dark skinned man with dark brown hair and red faded tips, he was now a pale white and skinny man with only dark brown hair and glasses. He put off his dark coat and switched to a dark green jacket, he had gotten from his backpack. The gun was thrown in a nearby trashcan and he started to walk away from the scene, without anyone noticing him. Edward was one of the first people to arrive at the scene. Connor ran towards him in his arms, while Jenny went with the paramedics who where bringing Mika to the hospital. "You are alright,yes??" His father asked him and Connor just nodded and didn't let go off him.
