Alex had been pacing back and forth outside the café for what felt like forever. His heart was racing, his palms were sweaty, and no matter how hard he tried to rehearse what he was going to say, the words kept slipping through his fingers like sand.
He has had a crush on Tomass for the longest time now, and he didn't know what happened to make the Latvian so mad.
Then he realised. How could he be so stupid not to realise before.
Tomass was already inside, sitting by the window, stirring his coffee absently. He hadn't even looked up when Alex arrived. The usual warm smile that lit up his face every time they hung out wasn't there. Instead, Tomass looked distant, maybe even a little angry.
The Jamaican sighed and took a deep breath, pushing open the door. The bell jingled softly, but Tomass didn't react.
"Hey," The younger said, trying to sound casual, though the tension in the air made it feel impossible.
He slid into the seat across from Tomass, waiting for some kind of response.
"Hey," Tomass replied shortly, still not making eye contact.
An awkward silence settled between them like a heavy weight.
Alex bit his lip, trying to think of the right way to approach the conversation. He knew exactly why Tomass was upset.
In the truth or dare game, Alex had let slip that he might consider dating Dion, a teammate of theirs. He had no idea that his words would hit Tomass like a punch to the gut.
