Authors note: This chapter is LOOONGGG. I spent two weeks writing it! I hope you enjoy, and again apologize for all of the delays!!!
You and Swatch stepped into the ample dome. The starlight.. Or.. whatever was in the sky that made the sky glow, peered down on you. The sky was watching. No...Something else was watching. Always watching.
You walked into the center of the dome. There lay a beautiful mosaic tile pattern. It had blues, yellows, reds, any sort of color you could think of. In the center of it lay a tile portrait of the queen. She was resting on a red velvet chair, gilded with gold. In her hand was the typical acid wine cup. Although it looked typical for Queen, she was beautiful. She seemed more 'human' like than you could ever imagine. If only she could be like that all the time.
"The floor is just beautiful, no?" Swatch mentioned. His head was more directed towards you than the floor.
You let out a short laugh. "I was just thinking the same thing." You darted your eyes towards his. "You know, the queen looks just so..." You paused. "Human."
"Hm? What do you mean by 'human'? Swatch asked. You thought about the question. You really did but you couldn't come up with a clear answer.
"I'm not sure, exactly. I don't mean the species like me... But more like a real person. A person with emotions. Someone who cares about others. I guess, an empathetic person? I'm really not all that sure."
"It seems like you've made Queen sound like she's a monster." Swatch was discouraged. It only made sense since he's been a loyal servant to the queen for so long.
"Sorry, I didn't mean for it to sound that way." You said discreetly. "But she is one." You whispered.
Swatch perked his head up. "What was that you said?" It was innocent sounding.
"Oh, nothing," You smiled. "Just me talking to myself."
"If you say so..." He paused. "Ah! You distracted me. We need to work on training."
He shifted down to the ground and tapped the tile-patterned floor twice. The centerpiece of the mosaic rose up beneath your feet and spun around in an elegant corkscrew motion which allowed you a breathtaking view of the dome.
You came to an abrupt, jolty stop.
"Ah!" You screamed. Your foot slipped off the platform.
This was it. You're dead. Swatch was too far away on the other end of the platform to reach you. The ground was rushing towards your face. You really wished you had some last words but there was none. There it was, the ground right there. You braced yourself for impact and closed your eyes expecting to be hit by the ground.
Your fall was interrupted.
You could hear a sigh of relief from Swatch. "That was a close one."
You felt what stopped your fall. It was... Feathers? It wasn't normal feathers, they felt too hard. You opened your eyes. The feathers glistened from the light reflecting. They were... stone? Marble perhaps? Surprisingly landing on them didn't hurt as much as expected. At least Swatch had saved you.
"What was that!?" You screamed, pumped with adrenaline.
"I apologize, Knight. I would've caught you sooner if your falling was expected."
You turned around and saw Swatch peering down towards you.
"I mean I'm glad you caught me. I was expecting to die right then and there, but what was that magic?"
