It's morning on the Metropolitan Police Department, Fairweather State. Detective Kris Connor stirred his coffee in a rush, barely tasting the bitter brew as he popped a sugar-free tablet into the cup. He glanced at the time, muttering under his breath about the morning briefing ranting about how people of this town would literally report anything to the police, and it's been a while since he got an interesting case. His eyes flickered to the small bathroom attached to his office, a much-needed shower before the chaos of the day began.

He twisted the faucet, letting the cool water splash against his face—until the smell hit him. Metallic. Sharp. His brow furrowed as he sniffed the air. It wasn't the musty old plumbing he was used to. The smell was... blood.

As Kris backed away, his stomach dropped and panic rose in his throat. He reached for his phone and called his colleges, but his hands were shaking.

"Get the forensics in here right now!" he yelled, his voice shaking. He ran out of the bathroom with his heart racing as he ran down the hall.

Moments later, the Paramedics and the officer's voices filled the station as investigators arrived. They swarmed the roof, prying open the water tank that fed the precinct's plumbing. Kris watched from the ground, breath caught in his chest.

"Got something!" Detective Sven Serpent, an honorable detective of MetroPD called out, peering into the tank.

The lid was lifted. Everyone froze.

A body, bloated, pale, lifeless, floated in the tank. The uniform was unmistakable: it was Dr. Eugene Harrow, the chief forensic pathologist. The one responsible for Metro PD's most critical police doctor. But that wasn't the worst of it.

Jutting from Dr. Harrow's neck was a police-issued knife, the gleaming steel handle still intact.

Kris staggered back, eyes wide in disbelief. His gut clenched when he noticed the emblem on the blade—the unmistakable initials M.S. engraved into the handle.

Detective Sven Serpent appeared at Kris's side, eyes wild with rage. "Where's the CCTV footage? Why isn't there any surveillance?!,Someone who had access inside must have erased the footage"

There was no answer. No one moved.

Within moments, forensic officers confirmed the horrifying truth. "It's him," one of them said quietly. "The prints match. It's Detective Maverick Sanders."

Detective Maverick Sanders had always been a standout officer. He is still single despite joining the police at the age of 19.He formed an unbreakable team with his closest friends and coworkers, Detectives Nixon MacBride, Derek Madry, Colton Stone, Sven Serpent, Kris Connor, and Timothy Butler. Together, they battled crime, put in endless hours, and experienced the highs and lows of their hard line of work. Dismantling large criminal organizations and exposing fraud.

Maverick was left an orphan. After growing up in an orphanage, he enrolled in the police academy. Nixon McBride, his partner and best friend, provided the funding. He later became a member of the Metropolitan Police Department as well.

People knew that Maverick was humble and thankful. Despite the difficulties he had while performing his duties, he never failed to pause and show gratitude to others. His kindness was not limited to the area; on chilly winter evenings, he would frequently be spotted purchasing food for the homeless and putting his own coat on them.

Maverick noticed a big discrepancy between his personal and professional lives as the years went by. He tried to keep an optimistic attitude, but he couldn't help but feel an increasing sense of emptiness. When no one in his social circle recognized his birthday, the realization struck him more strongly. Aside from Nixon and MetroPD, he also nearly forgot who he once cared for.
