No, she never told him, he thought. So that was the reason she looked amused the day they met. This was her favourite spot, he thought incredulously. He wondered why she never told him. But why was he allowed to seat here if she had the place booked? There was no way they recognized him.

‘‘She told us the day prior to your meeting that she would be meeting with someone.’’

She answered his question again. Wait… was his face that readable?

‘‘Yes.’’ She answered grinning at him.

He must do something about that, he thought.

‘‘…And before I leave, I’ll tell you to move fast about Miss Browne. There’s always a guy that comes in here asking for her. I think you’ve met him here before.’’

If he’s met him here before, then it must be him. Her childhood friend, Jide. He didn’t like the dude, he didn’t give him a good impression.

‘‘Alright. Thank you… ummm…’’ He didn’t know her name.

‘‘It’s Funmi.’’ She supplied.

‘‘Thank you, Funmi.’’

Bolaji gave her a smile to which she nodded as she went off. That was a lot of information he got. It bothered him that Jide has been asking for her. But if had to come here to ask for her, it means she has not been seeing him. What a pleasant thought.

He finished the full course of what they had to offer, dessert and all. Bolaji waited for a little while to rest and enjoy the outside view. Since it was in the middle of the day, there were a lot of people moving around.

They quickly disappeared behind the buildings though. After he thought he had rested enough, he decided to get back to the company. As he was about to leave, he saw him coming in. Why must his second encounter with him be when he was about to leave, again.

As he entered the restaurant, he looked around before strutting towards him. He caught his eyes and faltered, but then he continued towards him even more. He really looked like a man on a mission.

He reached his table. He was pretty tall and lanky, he was a shorter little than him. But he was only inferring since Bolaji was still seated. He was in a black business suit today unlike before, he must be coming from work or something. Judging by his behaviour when he walked in and what Bolaji heard before, he could guess what he came here to do.

He looked over to her usual seat and for the second time that day… ‘‘Where is she?! Is she with you?’’ He asked that scowling at Bolaji.

Hey, hey… he was asking that as if he was keeping her hidden in his pocket. Bolaji was going to give him the benefit of the doubt since Samantha said he wasn’t a bad guy. But he had his limit. ‘‘That’s quite the greeting. Nice to see you, too.’’

His scowl deepened. He was quite handsome but that was hard to see with the way his face was set in a scowl at the moment.

‘‘As you can see, she’s not with me today. And I was just about to leave.’’

Bolaji pushed his chair back as he stood to his full height. Jide’s head was just about his eye level as he stood blocking his way.

‘‘If you don’t mind, I have to go.’’

‘‘I heard you are partners with her company.’’ He said raising his head to look him in the eye. The scowl on his face was gone now and it was replaced with something else. ‘‘You are not going to be able to help her.’’

What the hell was he talking about now? ‘‘The current situation begs to differ.’’

‘‘You don’t understand.  You won’t be able to and it won’t do you any good to do so.’’ He was talking with a much gentler voice now. And Bolaji could see resignation in his eyes. ‘‘She’s been through so much, I hate to see her like this. The only way to relieve her is if we get married.’’
