A boy with tousled brown hair wandered aimlessly through the dimly lit hallway, his heart racing with uncertainty as he sought the principal's office, yearning for his timetable and dorm key. Just as doubt settled in, a voice broke through the silence, "Hi, are you lost?" He spun around, meeting the gaze of a girl whose eyes sparkled with warmth and curiosity. "Yeah, do you know where the principal's office is?" he asked, desperation lacing his voice. She paused for a moment, furrowing her brow in thought, before responding, "Yes! Just go to your left, then take a right, and at the end of the hallway, you'll find it." Relief flooded through him as he breathed out a quick, "Thanks!" and dashed off, urgency in every step.
As she watched him hurry away, a flicker of intrigue ignited within her. "What a strange boy," she mused to herself, her mind racing as she headed to class. Yet, the lingering feeling persisted—a haunting familiarity that tugged at her heart.
Moments later, a tentative knock echoed through the office door. "Come in," called the voice of authority. The brown-haired boy entered, his face a mixture of determination and nervousness. "Hello, sir. It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Ah, you must be Mr. Ward," the principal said, a welcoming smile gracing his features. "I've heard so much about you from your previous school."
"That's true, sir," the boy replied, a hint of pride shining through his nervousness.
"Please, call me Professor Anderson," the principal insisted, his tone warm and inviting. "And remember, you're welcomed here with open arms. Should you face any challenges, don't hesitate to reach out to us."
"Alright, Professor Anderson," the boy nodded, feeling a sense of reassurance. "May I have my timetable and dorm key, please?"
"Absolutely," he said, extending a hand to deliver a crisp sheet of paper and a shiny silver key. "Have a wonderful evening. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow."
As the boy stepped out of the office, he glanced down at the dorm key, his heart fluttering at the inscription: K9. With newfound excitement coursing through him, he decided to make a detour to the library before seeking out his new home, eager to uncover the many stories that awaited him within those walls.
