"You ready?"
My dad and I take one last look at the house we were only just getting used to. I wave my final goodbye and get in our truck. My best friend, Lottie slides in next to me. "I'm going to miss you." She says softly.
I smile sadly at her. "Ditto, but I'll visit, trust me." She smiles and bumps her shoulder with mine.
"Alright Lottie, when driving my truck back, please don't trash it." My dad sounds serious but he's smiling so I know he's just messing with her.
"No but Lottie, try not to kill yourself." And with that last word we're pulling out of our driveway.
---------------------------------------------
"I love you Lot, I'll text you as soon as I land!" I give Lottie a great big hug, she hugs me back just as tight.
"Don't have too much fun without me, and be safe Cal.." She reminds me to be careful and I think of the first time we met. I was a mess and she was there for me even though we didn't know each other. We've been best friends ever since.
"I will, see you soon."
My dad and I walk away to get on the plane, leaving Lottie in the sea of people.
-----------------------------------------------------
After a five hour flight and a twenty minute drive, my dad and I make it to our house.
I look at our new house. It's smaller than our one in Ontario but it's doable. I look in the driveway to see a car already sitting there. I look at my dad questionably.
"I bought it over the phone. It's ours."
I don't ask any more questions about it. I walk to the back of the house.
Whoa.
It has an outdoor pool, and there's a pool house. The atmosphere is totally different here, it's warm and clammy, very different compared to Ontario. Ontario is not clammy, it's more of a dry heat, and winter's are very cold. I definitely need a wardrobe change. I feel almost intimidated here. I'm hoping to just blend in with the crowd, but that probably won't happen.
I walk into the house and walk around, everything seems already furnished? I knit my eyebrows together. My dad sees the confusion on my face and starts explaining. "I had movers come in and furnish everything."
"Where did you get the money?" I'm curious as to where we got the money for all of our moves but never questioned it until now.
"Uh.. your mom." My mom? I had no idea she even had contact with my dad.
"Oh." Is all I manage to say.
I walk up the stairs and into what I assume is my room. I close the door behind me and my mouth drops open, I have a huge bed and the part of the ceiling my bed is under is slanted. I have a balcony that I never noticed before. I have my very own walk in closet and my own private bathroom. I'm shocked to say the least. There's a TV in the corner, and a desk for me to study and go on computer. I lay my jacket on the chair by my desk and look around once more.
"So nice." I whisper.
"You like it?" I walk over and hug my dad.
"Love it. But I still miss Ontario." He sighs and rubs my shoulder.
"I'm sorry I'm putting you through this Cal, but for right now, in this very moment, I need you to bare with me and live here, and if after a few years you don't like it here, then we'll move back. What do you think?" I don't even know what to think.
"That would be nice." My dad kisses my forehead and quietly leaves the room.
I kick off my sneakers and hop on my new bed. Oh so soft. I sigh in content and close my eyes...
