THE BIRD...

A girl found a small bird

Nobody was around

The bird could not up high enough

Out of breath it lay on the pavement

She wanted a new pet

Having dogs and cats wasn't enough

She took the bird home

She bought a cage and bird feed

Each day the bird stared at her

Sometimes she would let it out

Most times it was abandoned in the cage

Unlike home birds this bird was a wild bird

It recognized every move every word

She lit a cigarette

All the dogs were out playing outside

The cats never came during the day

This time it was dark and no animal wanted to come in

The moon glowed differently that night

The bird in its cage stared at the moon

Letting out it's anger and fury

It spoke to the moon

Why must I be here... Trapped and abandoned...it said

If I were human

If I got to be her and she me

Would she want me to do the same to her

It wasn't a typical moon

Charged to give back what anyone gave to those that spoke to her

The moon appeared to twinkle

As if responding... I got you... Almost as if it whispered the message to the bird

The bird began to not make a sound

By the next day

Everything was quiet

Not even the dogs barked to be left out outside

Something ominous lingered

The cats at the first sight of the door bolted

The ran straight out not wanting to be inside any longer

The bird laid at the bottom of the cage with its head depleted

As if it's life was withering away slowly

She took the bird in her hands and said, what's going on with you... Why are you so quiet...

The bird closed it's eyes not wanting to see her face anymore

It felt much better to not open it's eyes anymore

Darkness looked more inviting

The girl held the bird away from her and tossed it outside her house

The bird hit the pavement hard and rolled to a stop

The dogs rushed outside

She lit another cigarette

Geeze she said, dumb bird

One of the dogs carried the bird by one of it's wings

Owe owe said the bird

It felt the sharp teeth of the dog

The dog wanted to eat the bird but not in front of the girl she might beat him

But as the dog reached the tree a weird sound sounded around the tree

The dog ran away

As if another dog chased it

It felt a strange presence

The bird laid there waiting for the final bite

The first ones hurt maybe the next it wouldn't feel anymore

It's eyes closed

The something glowed near it's eyes

There stood a woman

Surrounding her was a bluish purple glow

She said, I heard every word you said

How about instead you watch what happens to people that wrong animals...

You heard me the bird said

It looked around who and how did it speak to her

How could they understand each other

She spoke then

I am all aware of those who speak to me

I see what others don't

I understand what you have been through

You've endured a lot little bird... Too much even I wept

The silence is deeper in the night

Your anguish

Your suffering

I saw it all

I could see and feel what you've been put through

The bird had no response

Could it be true

How could she do something for it

Then she shared her glow with him

The bird glowed

No one could see them or hear them as they went inside the girls home

The lights flickered

The things rustled

Things fell

The dogs became enraged and bit the girl

The cats went wild and scratched her

Their claws even longer

The girl ran out of the house

Not knowing what had happened

Why all of a sounded things happened

Little did she know...
