We were ready now. I was certain that the other demons, the vampires atleast, would be coming to avenge the one we'd killed. And we'd fight back with all we had.

We had clips full of wood and silver bullets (yes, a little of both so they could be used on more than one species), multible pistols and other small guns that we'd managed to scrounge up, and we'd both agreed that we'd never say goodbye, no matter what happend.

I heard the footsteps long before I saw the demons. There was atleast 5 or 6 of them from what I could tell, and they were p****d. Just as well, a demon can be in near stuper when their rage gets the better of them, which isnt that rare an event.

"Human." the first vampire acknowedged with a growl

"Bloodsucker." I greeted right back, keeping my poker face despite the look on his face as I said this

"Well look who's all grown up now." another vampire commented snidely

"Shut up Raamah..." one of his colleagues snapped quietly.

Raamah shut his mouth but glared silently at me.

"Shall we?" I gestured towards their weapons.

The vampire up front, who'd spoken first and seemed to be the leader smirked with an evil glint in his eye. My boldness obviously amused him, but he easily agreed.

"Men, you know what to do. Master wants her alive, but the boy's up for grabs. He's on a first-come first-serve bases. Lets get our free-for-all boys!'

I did NOT like the way he talked about Gabe like he was some sort of snack, and I didnt not attempt to hide this. His smirk widened.

I pulled my gun out at a speed that surprised even me and wasted no time putting three bullets in Raamah. He didnt seem to be the type that anyone was going to miss.

Gabe and I ended up taking out two more before their backup arrived and suddenly we were up against 15 rather than just five. Gabe and I ended up fighting back to back, turning in a slow circle as we fired and fired, having no time to even aim before shooting again. Just when we thought we were winning, even more arrived. Somewhere in this mess, the ringleader disapeared. But I didnt have time to worry about that, maybe he had fallen and the other vampires were blocking my view or something...though in the end it should have been my biggest concern because if I'd been thinking straight then I would know that he hadn't fallen, not at all.

Suddenly, all the vampires began retreating slowly. And being as full as adrenaline as we were, we didnt realize what was really happening before it was too late and he had me in his clutches.

"No, Annabel! Let her GO!" Gabe said, his voice slipping into a snarl towards the end

"Why should I? What are you gonna do about it?"

"This." Before he'd even finished his dialogue, he had his gun trained on the vampire's thigh, right by his artery, and five seconds later the shot rang out, the vampire had no choice but to let me go.

"Annabel, RUN! I'll catch up!"

And I did, but the thing is right as I was out of his view, I felt an agonizing sensation tear up and across my back. Somehow I managed to keep running, but I was loosing a LOT of blood while I was at it. IT caught up again but this time my palm got slashed open as he tackled me to the ground. Dont ask how, but somehow Gabe showed up at the right time and got the thing off me. Again he told me to run, and again I listined because I knew I could only hinder him.

But this time, it wasnt a demon that forced me to the ground, but rather my own body as the loss of blood finally caught up with it. I accepted my fate now. But I also knew I had to leave a message of some sort for Gabe, a final goodbye. I was able to, dont ask me how, to write with the blood that was pouring out of my left hand, and scratch out a message on a crumpled sheet of paper that had been tossed to the floor in a recent storm.  Then as my vision slowly blurred, the world and all of its wonders released me finally into some sort of peace...
