dad said seattle was supposed to be a fresh start for eleventh grade, god how i wanted to believe him.

he took me away from california, so it was somewhat better for me and him, how the fuck was it better for me? he'd taken me away from my friends, from seeing my mom, god everything just had to go to shit.

"dawn? are you listening to a word im saying?" i heard my dads voice raise slightly as i was snapped back to reality.

"sorry, yeah continue." i responded with a small sigh leaving my lips as i spoke.

"as i was saying, i think you'll really enjoy it here." he smiled softly at me, turning back to the road ahead of him, i felt a small pang of guilt hit me. he only wanted me to try feel happier. "theres some cool places we could go, its greener around there."

"oh, thats nice." i returned the smile to him, clearing my hair out of my face after the wind chose to make it fly into me. "you can take more photos, if landscapes are still your thing."

he chuckled warmly before he spoke. "you really do know me so well." he stated before examining the green pine trees along the highway.

i gave him a half smile before turning back to the window, glancing out of it. god i missed california already.

after a couple more hours, my dad turned into a small street, i was still fantasizing in my own world, my dad gave me a slight nudge to take me back to the real world.

"so.." i trailed off before continuing my sentence. "its.. its nice, i guess." i tried to convince my dad i really was excited to be here, but it wasnt exactly passing by him.

"dawn, honey, you'll love it soon enough." he put a reassuring hand on my shoulder with a gentle smile. "i know its not as exciting as cali but you'll settle in!"

i sighed looking down, i attempted to be appreciative of his choices but god he was right, it wasnt as exciting as california. i didnt feel right because i didnt belong here.

"im just gonna set everything up in.. wherever my room is." i grabbed a box full of my stuff from where the moving truck had pulled in, opening the door to the desolate house.

i placed down all my boxes on the floor of a small room i'd chosen to be my room, i'd be spending most of my time in here so i may aswell make it as cozy as i can for the time being.

i put up my fairy lights around the corners of my room, put my plants down, attempted to put one of my shelves up, hanging up my guitar on the wall and putting down an air matress that would have to act as my bed until my frame was finally back together as i wasnt exactly a master at crafts.

"honey? i made you some lunch, come into the kitchen!" i heard my dad exclaim, placing down my phone on the matress and sitting down on one of the small stools. "you know where your starting school next week, right?" he questioned, raising an eyebrow.

"unfortunately, yes." i scowled at the mention of the new school, peacock highschool, what a fucking name.

"dont be like that." he shot me a sharp glare, making me roll my eyes slightly. "just.. try to communicate, i know how you can be."

i scoffed at his comment, i might not have enjoyed talking to people but god how i hated it when people tried to make me enjoy it. "everyones just gonna be an asshole." i retorted.

"watch your language, missy." he argued back before letting out a deep sigh, putting two fingers on the bridge of his nose. "i get it must be tough but, maybe.. go out, go somewhere thats popular, like a skatepark?"

i slightly perked up at his addition, a skatepark. i was slightly shit at skating but atleast it could keep me entertained in a shithole like here. "yeah, sure." i complied, taking another bite of my food, finishing it off.

"really?" he beamed. "thats great! take aslong as you need!" he grinned before he continued washing the dishes.

"okay?.." i shrugged lightly at his words, i headed back into my room to get changed into some new
clothes instead of the ones i'd been wearing for awhile.

i switched into an old paramore shirt with a pair of denim shorts that suprisingly werent frayed. i got my board from one of the boxes, it was packed with stickers on the bottom.

i made my way to the front door, waving my dad bye as i left the house. i quickly turned to my phone to check the directions toward the park.

after a good ten minutes i found myself at a large park, full of kids, some my age and some not. i did some of the tricks i usually did to warm up before i got to skating.

i made my way up onto a ramp to sit down for a break, turning on a song in my headphones. i felt a gentle tap on my shoulder as i turned up toward the person.

"what're you listening to?" the girl smiled, taking a seat next to me. she had a black bob, reaching the top of her shoulders, dark brown eyes and a nice smile to her.

"this charming man, by the smiths." i replied, i returned the warm smile back to her that i'd recieved earlier.

"that songs super good! are you from around here?" she asked, a wide grin on her face.

"uh, no, im from california." i shook my head lightly, giving her a half smile. "i actually just moved here."

she nodded taking all the information in, with her mouth gaped open slightly. "so... you dont have like.. any friends?" she asked genuinely with a curious intent.

"no." i stated bluntly, pursing my lips.

"well.. ill be your first friend then!" she giggled softly, turning to face me fully. "oh shit, by the way i'm lyla."

"i'm dawn, nice to meet you lyla." a grin tugging at the corner of my lips, a considerate smile forming onto my face.

"you smoke?" she asked, i thought she was joking but she had a genuine lace to her voice as i saw her offer the box to me.

"no, im good." i smiled softly, turning down her offer. "im really trying to quit."

"well if u reconsider, hit me up!" she smiled, lighting her cigarette, taking off a long drag to start it off. "we are going to be really, reallyy good friends, dawn." she gave me a soft smile.
