Chapter 1
My First Day

I can't believe this, it's my first day as an assistant for the biggest company in LA and I'm already late. I'm supposed to be there at nine A.M, but I didn't even leave my house until eight-thirty because my alarm didn't go off, and I live 45 minutes away. I swear, if I get fired before I even get there, I'm going to scream.

I've been trying so hard to get this job, and now that I finally got it I'm running late for my first day. Just my luck, right? I'm finally working for Molina Healthcare. I've always been into medicine and helping people, so getting this job is a big deal to me. When I was little, I used to love playing doctor with my mother. She passed away due to cancer when I was around six or seven, she had leukemia.

I finally reach the building, and woah, is this place big. When I finally got to my boss's office he's sitting there waiting for me. "Look who has finally decided to show up to work." Says my new, and apparently not very nice, boss. "Care to explain why you were late, Ms. Ryder?"

"I am so sorry, Mr. Wright. My alarm-" I stop and sigh when he rolls his eyes. "It won't happen again, Sir."

"Sit, Ms. Ryder." He commands. I find myself listening without a second thought.
"I- uhm, you can call me Ana, Mr. Wright." I clear my throat because he makes me really nervous, and I have a feeling that I should have just sat quietly.

"My job requires me to be professional, and calling your first name would be incredibly unprofessional. I will not call you your first name, as you will not call me mine. Understood, Ms. Ryder?"

"Yes, Mr. Wright." I say quietly. 
"Good. You will not show up to work late tomorrow, yes?" He stares at me.

"Yes, Mr. Wright." I start to fidget with the ring on my left middle finger. I bought it for my birthday this year, and I've started to fidget with it when I get nervous.

The room is silent while he stares at me. He looks me up and down, but I avoid eye contact. I'm afraid If I look him in the eyes, I'll see how angry he is. Even still, I can feel his eyes. They're roaming over me. I'm wearing a lacy black shirt and a blouse, and I have a good amount of cleavage showing, but not enough to be deemed as inappropriate for work. I made sure of that by reading the code of conduct. I don't want to add to the amount of trouble I'm probably in right now.

I'm not as nervous as I was earlier. Mr. Wright has me filing through a bunch of old medical files, but it's very boring. My office phone rings on my desk, and I answer.

"This is Anastasia Ryder speaking," I answer.

"Ms. Ryder, come to my office." He demands.

"Yes, sir." I respond

I make sure I look professional, and then head to Mr. Wright's office. I knock and he tells me to come in. He's standing, looking out at the city through the tall windows that cover the back wall of his office.

"Ms. Ryder, I have a job for you." He says, turning around, looking at me the same way he did earlier, making my face light a pink blush.

"You do?" I say, slightly uncomfortable because once again, I feel his eyes lingering over my blouse.

"Yes, Ms. Ryder. You will go to one of our hospital locations and pick up some files."

"Yes, sir. Can I get the address so I can put it into my phone?" I say, avoiding eye contact. I truly don't like eye contact.

"I have your number on file, the address will be texted to you." He responds "Oh, and Ms. Ryder?"

"Hm?" I respond, barely looking up.

"Look at me when I speak. It's very disrespectful to avoid eye contact." He demands.

"I-" I stop when he raises his eyebrows. "Yes, sir." 

Chapter 2

When I finally get home, I slump on the couch and finally relax. Today was a long day, and my hands hurt from filing. If I have to sort anymore files tomorrow, I'm gonna cry.

Now that I am finally home, I make my favorite comfort food, spaghetti and I get a slice of leftover red velvet cake from this past weekend. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow, whatsoever. I'm just gonna relax for now and eat, then take a shower and get ready for bed.
