name: Charles "Little Brother" O'Brien
• alias(es) and nickname(s): Most notably David Kelly, the alias he uses when joining in on scams and heists. Other names include Obie, "little bear," "duckie," and "dog."
• title(s): Errand boy.
age: 18–19 (1899), 26–27 (1907)
• birthday: Fall of 1880
gender: Male (transexual – with top surgery and HRT because i am a TIME TRAVELER! And have an imagination)
• pronouns: He, him, himself
sexuality: Unlabeled, asexual/aromantic
general physical traits: Charles stands at 5'6 and is broad-shouldered, though notably chubbier than he is muscular. He has warm toned skin, tired grey eyes, and choppy and short black hair. Charles notably resembles his mother in photos, though is commonly mistaken as Dutch's son due to minor traits. He has darker peach fuzz, especially on his upper lip and over his jawline, but looks younger than he is despite this.
• recognizable physical traits: Charles has a scar over his brow and a constant look of exhaustion despite sleeping more than the rest of the gang. He often has scars and scrapes on his hands.
physical abilities: Charles can hold his own to a general extent. He isn't able to hold much more than his own weight, but can carry horse and chicken feed without much trouble. He struggles with hand-to-hand combat but excels in strategy.
physical strengths: Charles has a higher pain tolerance and has higher endurance than most, but does not seem to have high strength.
general personality traits: Charles is notably quiet and resigned, something that is seen as antisocial and arrogant when it comes to the gang. He's often regarded as rude, dismissive, or self absorbed, as he tends to keep out of group activity as well as group conversation. His over self indulgence (reading, mainly) comes off as him being in his own world, though he is observant and keeps an eye on most people. Though antisocial, Charles is kind and patient with people, but his quietness and general disposition says otherwise. He speaks in an off tone and tends to gesture or make expression or sounds more than speak. When he does speak, it is about something he deems important to himself or the other person, but most likely himself. Charles has a general air of uncomfortableness or awkwardness, as if he is constantly in a state of unease, but is actually rather calm.
• recognizable personality traits: Charles is most recognized for his uncomfortable and awkward expression, including his tense or sarcastic tone of voice. He is seen as arrogant or dismissive, even disrespectful, as he tends to keep to himself unless interested. He is notably intelligent (for the 19th century) and is notably hungry for knowledge of all things.
mental abilities: None, though he has a strong and vivid visual memory. He struggles with verbal instructions.
mental strengths: Charles has a stronger ability to learn things, especially when the topic interests him. He picks up on patterns in most things. His memory is strong, too, which aids in his abilities to problem solve.
clothing -
• general: Charles tends to wear a limited range of clothing. He wears a white cotton union suit as an undergarment, and it is just as ill-fitted as the rest of his clothing. His socks are a deep blue, made of cotton, and are patched at the toes with greyed fabric. Charles' general clothing include dark brown, nearly black trousers with slightly lighter-brown vertical pinstripes. He wears a linen work shirt with the sleeves rolled to the elbows and the stanley-style collar buttoned properly. His boots are black, leather, and unnotable.
• cold-wear: Atop his regular clothing, he will add on a thick and dark blue scarf made of wool and will typically wear a thick, grey Norfolk jacket.
• warm-wear: Often, Charles will simply unbutton the majority of his shirt or will ditch the shirt altogether. At times, he will switch his trousers to a shorter cut which reaches below the knee.
• night wear: He simply leaves off his trousers and shirt and climbs into his makeshift tent in his socks and union suit.
• special wear: None, to be added.
• fighting wear: None.
• weaponry: Charles carries with him a Miller Bros. folding knife as a personal item, but uses a stronger stiletto switch blade when fighting. The stiletto is a newer blade and a gift from Dutch after his first "real heist," which occured during Colter. The blade was found on the train.
mains -
aspirations: Outside of wanting to do right by his people in the gang, Charles wants to make his way back up North to reclaim his place with his family after "proving himself" somehow. This dream is often turned down or belittled by Dutch.
interests: Learning new things, animals, music, new medias like the moving picture or photography, collecting items or adding to his library, fishing, and reading.
fears: Charles has a known fear of getting lost or left behind. He dislikes the dark, too, and gets antsy about it but denies it being a phobia.
longtime goals: To see his family.
immediate goals: To aid the gang in reclaiming their glory (or rather, to aid them in finding their place in the world).
relationships -
parental: Dutch takes the front and foremost role in Charles' life as he was the one to find him years before. Despite this, Dutch claims to be more of a mentor and a guide, but treats Charles like one might a dog or a prized pony. Charles isn't aware of his being manipulated and influenced.
romantic: To be added.
platonic: The gang seems to dislike him most days, as Dutch's favoritism keeps him out of arm's reach of everyone. His seat beside Dutch on the pedestal is a bridge that most are unwilling to walk across. However, there are some who do not mind or do not care, and those people include Hosea, Miss Grimshaw, Abigail and Jack, as well as John. Arthur's relationship with Charles depends on the day, this goes for the rest of the gang too, as Charles doesn't speak to them often enough to prove himself. A notable friend, one who actually considers himself a friend, is Kieran Duffy, who recalls Charles helping him once or twice when he was tied to the tree in Horseshoe Overlook.
adversary: Colm O'Driscoll. Micah Bell and Bill Williamson serve as secondary to Colm, as they are both racist and derogatory towards him.
ally: Most of the gang.
other: Though not hateful, John and Charles share a close but critical relationship. Charles takes care of Jack and spends time with the boy, often helping Abigail or teaching Jack to read and write. John appreciates this, but will often get into arguments with Charles about trivial things regardless. Still, he is one of the few who will go out of his way to defend Charles, and is the source of the moniker "Little Brother."
backstory -
• brief story: Charles was born up in the Northern states of the U.S. but was shipped down state after having numerous episodes, mainly due to overwhelm. At the age of 12, he was sent off by his parents and was meant to be received by a hospital, but escaped at a stop and ended up somewhere in the South. He lived alone on the streets for a year before being caught stealing. Not from a shop, but from a horse's satchel that belonged to Dutch Van der Linde. At first, Dutch meant to shoot him dead, but found the kid to have the "bravery of a fool," as Charles lied right to his face and held his ground. He was taken in after and has lived with the gang for six years total.
• home life: To be added.
• family life: Seeing as Charles was sent away from home, he was not well prioritized by his family and was often ridiculed or sent away due to his emotional outbursts. He doesn't hate his family. In fact, he attempts to write them often, but does not go through with sending the letters and keeps them to himself.

other facts and trivia -
• Charles is autistic because I discovered a while ago that I am, in fact, autistic. So. There's that
• Charles is called "little brother," especially by John, because he has posed as John's brother for multiple scams and heists when he was younger. The first was when John had gotten caught stealing, too, and Charles acted as a starving little brother who was ill. John claimed the food he stole was for Charles. It wasn't.
• Reverend Swanson and Charles often discuss religion as Charles feels he is a natural born sinner, or something of a "bad omen" of a person, as he is sensitive and prone to aggression. Swanson disagrees when he is sober. However, when drunk, he will often say that everyone is evil liketat, and Charles takes it as truth.
