Japan, it's one hell of a country, if I say so myself. I was born and raised here, and during that time, I learned all kinds of things. This country has a lot of great spots to visit, it's a fun time for everyone, and I'm always happy to see more people go out of their way to come visit this place. However, as is with everything good...There's always gotta be some bad shit by default. As cool of a place as Japan is, it also has it's fair share of problems, such as, the big one: The yakuza. Assholes from the criminal underworld that do nothing other than cause trouble for the innocent and hardworking people of this country, and they're especially bad in my hometown, Sagamihara. Every now and then you'll hear stories about how someone from a certain yakuza family came and forced them to fork over some cash...So much for 'protection'.
That said, does that mean I just stay still with my arms crossed and do nothing about it? Nah, that ain't my style, y'know? I figured the least I could do is try and fight against the insecurity my people has to face every single day. So, what did I do?
I became a police officer. And right now, I just spotted a shoplifter.
I started chasing after him, while he was running on the sidewalk, I was right above him, on rooftops. Training for so many years had given me all kind of abilities when it came to parkour and other things like that. The way this dude was running seemed sloppy and dull, it almost made me feel bad...He even tripped! Poor bastard. At one point he took a left turn and ran straight into an alley, but what he didn't count on, was the fact it was a dead end. Which gave me the perfect window of opportunity to drop down right in front of him, rolling my sleeves, slick back my hair and stretch a little.
"So, what have we got here?"
He was silent for a few seconds before turning his back and attempting to run away once again, but I quickly grabbed him by the back of his shirt, pulled him towards me and nabbed the stuff he stole.
"Soba? Are you really this broke, man?"
"Asshole-!"
"You're young, and it seems you were just desperate, so I won't turn you in just like that."
"Huh? Really?"
"Yeah, yeah. But don't go doin' that stuff anymore, alright? People work hard to make these things."
"Fine..."
"Tell you what. We're gonna go to that store and I'll help you pay for that."
"...Why are you getting so friendly all of a sudden?"
"I just think it's something silly, nothing major or worthy of arresting you over. Unless you want me to turn you in."
"N-No, no- It's fine-"
"Attaboy."
We ended up heading right back into the department store, and I helped the dude pay for his meal. Seemed like a good kid, just going on the wrong path. That's another thing I'm trying to do, helping the youth find the way back home, one way or another. But I don't do it for the recognition, or the fame, that means nothin' to me. All I want is to make a world free of crime, one step at a time...Is that so much to ask?
"Alright, you got it?"
"Yeah...Thanks, sir."
"Sir? I don't roll with that formality shit...Call me Shindo! Shindo Nobu!"
