~~ Jess' POV: ~~

I had to time it perfectly. Yet for some reason I missed my window by a massive 10 seconds. We moved buildings recently, into a new, sleek, glass campus; something about it being more suitable for our new status. They were adding finishing touches to the menagerie and I had to wait until they connected the new wiring before deactivating the airlock. I accidentally clicked too soon and not 5 seconds later, alarms began blaring through our relatively new ARC.

The Dracorex had escaped.

My fingers sped across the keyboards of the ADD, my eyes flying to different screens to track the creature until a team could get here.

"Talk to me Jess." The team leader, Matt Anderson, came around a corner and into the hub, obviously drawn by the alarm.

"It's my fault!" I spoke frantically. "I released the air lock in the menagerie too early." My eyes didn't leave the screen as I spoke to him. "They were doing maintenance work and a creature got out." I sighed heavily. "God! I'm sorry."

"Concentrate Jess," Matt spoke calmly. "Have you got a visual?"

"It's moving into the corridor by lab 3."

I didn't realise in that moment that Lab 3 was right next to where our team leader stood, not until I brought the CCTV up on my screen, to see Matt's body smack in the middle.

"Matt!?"

"I know." His low voice came to me.

Panicking slightly, I slammed my hand on the button to speak through the comms.

"Back up needed in the south corridor by lab 3." I tried to keep my voice steady. "Back up, south corridor."

Considering the job we do, it takes a huge amount of self-control for me to stay so calm. I'm the field-coordinator, I have to stay calm. I thank my little miracle everyday in this job, without him I wouldn't have learnt the true meaning of "patience is a virtue". At least one good thing comes from tantrums.

I clicked off the CCTV to track the movement of back up and attempt to reactivate the airlock so I didn't see what happened with Matt. I heard things tumble to the ground, followed by a loud crash, but remained too focused to allow myself to concentrate on Matt. Then all sound stopped.

"Matt? Are you okay?" Silence met my call through the comms. "Matt!? Can you hear me?"

"Yeah." His quiet voice sounded over the line. "Get out of there Jess."

"I've just got to back up the system, this is all my fault."

I felt as if my job was already on the line, the least I could do is fix it first.

"Forget about that and get out of there! It's coming your way!"

I listened to Matt's plea, activating shut down and jumping up from my red, padded computer chair. I ran from the hub and into the break room, waddling in my bright-blue platform heels, only to come face to face with a dragon.
