Chapter 8| Finding Out

She was nervous and partially dissociated. Three months ago she had turned six and that's when her mother had passed. It was a painful memory for her and her brain couldn't handle it.

She was standing awkwardly behind Mr. Summers as he slowly walked her into the house. Fear, that's the only thing she feels. She was afraid of her father and she was scared that he'd come back. That he'd find her and hurt her again.

The sound of footsteps echoed through the empty home as a little boy approached. He has brown hair that is shaved on the sides. Big blue eyes that stared into her green ones.

"Hello," he smiled towards her and she recognized his voice from the playground. The same boy from before that had helped her up a few days ago. He was careful and slow with her. He put his hand out for her to shake and waited until she was ready to shake his hand. With a slight tremor in her hand, she slowly reached her hand towards his. Anticipating movement, however, none came. She grasped his hand in hers and gently shook it. The already wide smile became wider on his face.

When she scraped her knee while playing with Evan he held her tightly in his arms while she cried. When she had confessed to him about what happened to her, he had shed genuine tears as he hugged her tightly as well.

In Highschool, they were in two separate parts of the social pyramid. While she was only popular with the nerds, he was popular with everyone. The head of the football team and one of the most popular guys in school, however, that difference never affected them, they still were eachothers best friend and they always have been. He was her motivation even when she got super depressed during her highschool years. He cared for her even when she was sick.

He loved her. He truly did, platonically of course and she knew he loved her. They were so close to each other that they knew everything about the other. They knew everything. Well, almost everything.

"Good morning sleepyhead. You still haven't told me about Dr. Smarterson." He beamed at her and she smiled softly and contently as she woke up from her nap.

"His name is Spencer, by the way." She stated and he let out an audible "ouu". She sighed before stretching out her limbs. "He and I messed around a little bit over the phone. Then, we messed around a little bit more a few days ago." She explained and he watched her intensely.

"Are you two dating now? Or is this just hookups?" He asked and she shrugged.

"I don't know to be honest, though, we have been talking more frequently. He messages me at least 5 times a day. Usually updating me on cases and all of that stuff." Abagail heard him awe and she rolled her eyes.

"That's so cute! Did you say he hated technology though?" He asked her and she nodded. "So he's messaging you even though he hates technology? That's adorable!!"

"Oh hush, you're such anâ€"" the phone rang again and she felt her stomach drop as she was reminded of the previous call. She gulped before standing up and walking over to the phone, picking it up and placing it to her ear. "Hello?"

"Hey, we just finished up the case and I just got home, so I was thinking that you might need help studying. If you wanted to come over of course, I don't wantâ€""  he started to nervously ramble and she giggled to herself.

"I'd love to Spencer, I'll see you soon." She smiled as she hung up the phone. Then, she noticed Evan's excited eyes and realized that she completely forgot he was here. "Oh shoot, I'm sorry Evan I forgotâ€""

"Don't even, go get em girl, tell me all the juicy details when you get home, Kay?" He grinned and she smiled softly.

"I will! Sleep well Evs," he nodded as they hugged once before she left. She left the apartment before running down to the main floor and running to her car. This is the first time she'll see his place and she was excited to get into it. He sent her his apartment building and she immediately recognized the name. It's the building her mom used to live in.
