"First off who is it...who is this her, because I cannot think of a single pers.......wait a minute..... hold on here....... If it is who I am thinking, ... she is cute and yes a little different she definitely doesn't come begging to you....when she works beside you", Clive smirked and winked.
"Ah...so I need not give the name... and yes... her" Onceler grinned,
"Well... she hides it very well at work, she seems timid of you and downright scared of you and hides emotions well, probably good for the moment with other staff members ", Clive continued.
They continued conversing for the rest of the day. Onceler knew he had to return to work tomorrow but with that came also seeing her. That was its own reward.
*NEXT DAY*
Iris did her normal routine of typing and file organizing. Finally done with all the notes from the recent board meeting, she decided to clean up the office a bit. She heard the elevator open and heard the clicking of heels in the distance. She paid no attention to it because Onceler did not mention anyone coming by. Closer and closer they clicked and there she was. A cliché woman in heels and a basic floral dress. Her image resonated with the style one would see at a country club on a nice spring afternoon. Overkill to the extreme. She passed Iris without a second glance and walked into Oncelers office.
"Well..she has some damn nerve..", Iris muttered to herself.
Curiosity got the best of her, and Iris listened in. This woman did not seem like a normal type Onceler would deal with. It really made no sense and that intrigued her even more.
"Oncie!, so good to see you again!", the woman began.
Outside the door Iris rolled her eyes and continued at the desk.
"I just wanted to say thank you for the donation and coming to the charity ball in two weeks but..I also wanted to take something else up with you", she began.
"Well, it has been what...eight months since we last saw each other... sure as hell a long enough time to not bring something up....", Onceler said looking at her.
Oncelers tone told Iris all she needed to know. Whatever she wanted was not happening. No enthusiasm or interest at all...just flat.
"Yes well I wanted to also invite you boating this weekend, daddy would just love to see you again!", the woman said with enthusiasm.
"Oh really... considering I met him only for a few moments...I find that hard to believe", Onceler began to say.
"Well, it would be good for him to see you and me and...maybe discuss other things", she kept hinting at Onceler.
"Other things???.... oh do go on", Oncelers tone changed and began to show irritation in his face.
"Well, you are so successful now and maybe for your businesses sake, considering settling down and starting a family", the woman said flirtatiously.
Iris sat at the desk eyes widened. Glaring at the door and becoming irritated, she just shook her head.
"Uh....excuse me rich bitch.... Who the hell do you think you are???", Iris said quietly.
"Soooo let me get this straight you come in here beating around the bush talking marriage....marriage... as in I marry you, is that what you are insinuating?", Oncelers tone began to raise.
"Why yes, it would be a good union of families and great for the town.." she continued.
At that point Onceler could not continue the charade. Irritation showed on his face and in his eyes. He lifted his eyes up from his desk and stared at her snickering.
"Ok darling let me break this down for you outside the la-la land of delusions you apparently live in... first off we went out twice...TWICE, while yes you are good looking and I will give credit where it is due ...but...to be honest....really honest... even with you being eye candy ... you...did nothing for me on a deeper level...not don't interrupt, and along with that you literally jumped to a new dude the next week..I saw all the articles about your precious polo star...well...he must not be so precious if you are here now.. I will not marry for benefits of others...especially people who I have seen only twice in person... no way in hell... and finally the most important part of all....I could not imagine fucking you every night...there I said it... you're spoiled and a brat and I will not train a brat like you for my needs.. good god and doing you every night for the rest of my life... dear god the torture...I think if you were the only thing available in this damn town...I dare say I'd either be celibate....or gay",
Onceler then sat back in his chair and glared at her.
Iris grinned and wanted to squeal, such empowerment and honesty. She wanted to hugh Onceler and give him a pat on the back. The toxicity emanating from this woman was enough to make anyone ill.
The woman sat there speechless and then went to slap Onceler across the face. He blocked her and grabbed her wrist and stood up in front of her.
"No, none of that now... you have said your peace, BE GONE!", Onceler demanded.
The fast click of the heals went down the hallway. The lady huffed all the way to the elevator and entered it. Onceler slumped back in his chair and ran his hand through his black her.
"Iris come here please", he said with a flat tone.
She slowly walked in with files and put them on the desk and continued to look at him. He smoked a cigar and began to chuckle.
"I am sure you heard most of that and all I wanted to say was.....told you so... people had us pegged for some fucked up marriage a while ago and you see... you see the truth of it?", he inquired looking at her.
"I...am starting to see what you mean, and yes I remember ...papers said it was going to be wedding of the year or something like that", Iris said.
Still smoking he got up and came over to Iris. Slightly caressing her arm and looking at her.
"I just hope you can now start to see in fact, the charity ball...you're going, I really want you to see some things, sure I can explain it to you but it is better just to see", He looked down at her.
"See,...such as?", Iris asked.
"How this town really is, the good, the bad and ugly...maybe it will help you understand me more...genuinely", he finished his cigar and rand his hands down her sides.
"I see, and I think I get this...so sure I will go, I am curious ", Iris grinned.
He hugged her there in the office, although it had only been a few days, it felt like weeks for him. She leaned her head on him and enjoyed it, although not totally cautious in the office, she did not care. He was trying to make his point to her and with great effort. Deep down that is what got Iris. It conflicted her, it enticed her. All the while Onceler loved these few moments with his gem in his office.
