Stuck in Shadowland

In the dance of our days, you once made me whole,
A beacon of light in the depths of my soul.
You painted me stories of love and of dreams,
And I basked in your glow, in our silent schemes.
But as swiftly as stars fade in the dawn,
You turned away, and my world was withdrawn.
From feeling like something, to nothing at all,
I stumbled in darkness, where shadows befall.
I never demanded your love, nor your heart,
But your sudden indifference tore me apart.
Do you forget all the laughter we shared,
Or are you too blind to see how much I've cared?
I know I'm not worthy, not in your eyes,
But my love for you, it never denies.
Through years that have passed, I've held on to hope,
Yet now I must ask: where do I really scope?
Am I just a shadow, a ghost from the past,
Or do I still linger, in memories that last?
For I'm human, with feelings too deep,
And your disregard, like a wound, cuts so steep.
Though you're beautiful, and I'm but a flame,
I've a heart, just the same, that calls out your name.
So tell me, in this lonely old rue,
What do I really mean, what more can I do?
