As I walk into the coffee shop and Joe agrees to meet like we used to during college I smell the coffee and donuts that look like they were just put out. I see him, Joe

" Hey," I say, just glad he made time to see me. I know he's busy with football stuff, considering it is the middle of the season.

"Hey," Joe says as he puts down his phone.
He looks a little nervous

" I ordered your meal. Hopefully, it's the same as before" Joe says.

"Yup, still the same," I say with a laugh trying the let go of some of the tension.

"So how's life, tell me how's your family," I say.

With Laughter, he says " There um. there good"

"Well, that's good, haven't seen them in a while. That night that we... you know, your mom text me"

"That's cool. So um why did you invite me here?"

"To say I'm sorry"

" I've gotten over it now after all it's been almost like 3 years"

Because the last time you saw me I still burned in the back of your mind. You gave me roses and I left them there to die.

"You know the look on your face when you said you 'needed space' still burns in the back of my mind. I gave you roses and-"

" I left them there to die"

So this is me swallowing my pride standing in front of you saying "I'm sorry for that night"
And I go back to December all the time. Turns out freedom ain't nothing but missing, you wishing I realized what I had when you were mine. I go back to December all the time.

" The night you broke up with me?"

"Yes"

"Is that all?"

"No, I miss you, I miss us." Never thought those words would come out of my mouth.

" Look, I've moved on."

" You're dating someone?"

" No, I have not dated anyone but you..."

" Oh."

"Yeah."

" If you moved one then why did you pick up the phone when you saw my text? Why did you answer it? Why did you suggest the place where we used to meet when we were dating?"

" I don't know."

" It seems like you have not."

Have I moved on? He thought.
