*Luke's POV*
"So close. We were only a few centimeters apart. So close to kissing. Why did she tease me like that?" I told Calum at his house a few days later.
"You guys aren't really dating, so maybe she didn't want to kiss until it was official," he said after a few seconds of thought.
"I guess that makes sense. So should I ask her out?"
"Yeah! I mean why not, you know?"
"Ok, but how do I ask her? It has to be something big. She might think I'm a total loser."
"Stop drowning yourself in worries, Luke! Uh... Ooh! I have a goooooood idea! I have to call Ash and Mike first cuz they're going to help."
While Ashton and Michael were on their way, Calum told me to sit tight while he wrote his plan down on a few pieces of construction paper.
In his exact words the plan was,"First, Luke will take Cameron on a trolley around Melbourne to do some sightseeing. Next, he'll then take her to Ezard, one of the most expensive restaurants in Melbourne. Don't worry, Luke. We're paying for it. And lastly, they'll go to Yarra Bend Park. If they do this on Wednesday, the stars will be out and shining. So, they'll stand at the edge of the Yarra River and he'll ask her out. Hopefully, she'll say yes and then he'll take her to a spot that we'll set up that'll be like a picnic theme. Michael will bring his guitar, Ashton will bring his drum box, and I'll bring my bass. We'll play "Little Things" by One Direction and Luke will sing it. Then she'll cry and he'll cry and yeah! Soooo... That's the plan! What do you think?"
"That is the best idea I have ever heard, Calum!"
"Just working my magic!" He said and cracked his knuckles.
Ashton chimed in,"So, you said that this happens on Wednesday?"
"Yes! That means that Luke, you need to ask her to clear her plans for Wednesday, today. You have no choice," Calum responded.
"Fine. Let me go get my phone," I said. I walked over to the coffee table and found MANY texts from Cameron! I slid my finger across the screen, put in my passcode, and read the texts from the first one sent.
"Hi, Luke."
"I was wondering how you were doing today."
"Do you have plans today?"
"Are you alive? Lol."
"HELLO?"
"Why aren't you answering? You are really scaring me!"
"Are you okay?"
"Cal, Ash, and Mike won't answer either."
"Why are you avoiding me?"
"This silence is deafening!"
"I HAVE CALLED YOU EXACTLY 47 TIMES IN A ROW!!!"
"WHY WONT YOU ANSWER?!?!?! Did I make you mad?"
"Fine, if you don't want to talk to me, I won't talk to you, starting now."
I yelled out loud,"No!"
Michael walked toward me and asked what was wrong.
"I forgot that I had turned my phone to mute and Cameron was texting me this entire time. She was getting really angry and said that if I wouldn't talk to her, she wouldn't talk to me. How am I going to get a hold of her?"
"First, just try to text and call her. She might not be able to ignore you. If that doesn't work, see if she's at her flat or wherever she works. Then if that doesn't work, check her favorite places in town. And if th-"
"I think I got it. Thanks!" I cut him off.
I tumbled onto the couch, getting myself into a comfortable laying position. First, I called her phone a few times. No answer, but I left a message at her voicemail saying,"Cameron, I have to talk to you. It is SUPER important! Please answer me!"
She never answered. Which meant, I had to go to her flat. I knocked and rang the bell a few times. Nobody came to the door. I knew she wasn't at work because she'd told me that she was off for the day. I knew she liked to go to the park and the mall. Since I was closer to it, I stopped at the mall first. Her favorite store was Forever 21. Checked there, no signs. Second, Hot Topic. Again, nothing. The last place she shops at is Charlotte Russe. I walked in and checked around the store.
"Hey, Luke!" I heard a familiar voice say, but it wasn't Cameron's.
I turned around and saw a teenage girl with short blonde hair, an Aztec crop top, and white jeans staring directly at me. It was my ex-girlfriend, Elizabeth. She was also known, to the boys and me, The Cheater. I had a great history with Elizabeth until I found out she was cheating. Her and I were inseparable. She was so sweet and innocent. But the day she sent a picture of her and some guy, that wasn't me, kissing, I lost it. The caption was,"Aren't we just so cute?" I had told her the next day that I was for sure breaking up with her. But of course, this was three years ago.
"Hey, Elizabeth!" I said angrily at her. I definitely didn't want to talk to her. And definitely not at this terrible time!
"Oh. Someone's angry today! What happened? Did another girl turn you down?"
She knew I was sensitive about when girls would turn me down, especially if it was someone pretty, sweet, and had great manners, just like Cameron.
"No, actually," I said with a touch of sass. "I was looking for my girlfriend."
"You have a girlfriend?" She giggled, surprised.
"Well, not yet, at least. She is my very, very close friend."
"Aw! Too bad! Did she get lost like all the other dumb ones did? Did you trick her into thinking you were an amazing guy, just like you did to me?"
I had no idea what she was talking about because I had always been loyal to my girlfriends, especially Elizabeth.
"What? No. I've never done that before," I said. "YOU did that!" I started yelling at her a bit.
"Oh, like you didn't trick me into falling in love with you. Whatever, yeah. Is it your good looks she wants or does she really want you for your personality?"
"My personality! I know that she loves me unlike you ever had!" I yelled at her causing a big commotion. A large tear rolled down her face.
"I'm sorry. It's not the right time to talk to me. And still, I won't let this go. You were the one that ruined it," I accused her.
She picked her bag up and ran out of the mall, to the parking lot. I ran after her. When she finally stopped at her car, I said,"Listen, I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you. Do you want to grab some coffee or something?" I asked her. She sniffled and nodded.
I really didn't have the time for this and didn't want to do it, but I didn't want her to tell everybody that I was a terrible person. If it got to Cameron, our relationship would be ruined. It would crumble the stars to the dry, parched ground below my feet. I couldn't let my ex-girlfriend ruin something I've wanted all my life: a beautiful person I had a chance to spend the rest of my life with.
