She was doing this for Keefe.
Only Keefe.
"Oh, right! We've created this little gizmo..." Lady Gisela's voice trailed off as she searched her pockets. "Oh! There you are..." She pulled out a gun, making Sophie's eyes widen.
Lady Gisela cracked up.
"You really thought I was going to kill you? Oh, wow," Lady Gisela wiped her eyes.
Sophie rolled her eyes.
"This is a gun that shoots medicine. It will allow your legs to heal immediately, so you can walk again." Lady Gisela explained.
Sophie's eyebrows raised.
"You expect me to believe that? You'd never help me with something like this. For all I know, that could blow my legs off." Sophie argued.
"Well, you need to be able to walk for my plan. Also, I'm not allowed to kill you." Lady Gisela replied. Sophie sighed.
"Fine. Just do it." Sophie muttered.
Lady Gisela pointed the gun at Sophie's legs, and Sophie felt warmth rush over her and her knees buckled suddenly. Then her legs started shaking. There was some pressure that made her let out a yelp before the pain faded.
Lady Gisela smiled, then ripped the cast off of Sophie's legs.
"You can't just..." Sophie's voice trailed off when Lady Gisela flicked her leg and it didn't hurt. Sophie swung her legs, her eyes widening.
"No way... It actually worked?" Sophie whispered.
"Yes, Sophie, now stand up. We need to get to the facility for the next phase of the plan." Lady Gisela instructed.
Sophie looked skeptically at her legs before standing up and gasping at how easily she could stand. It was like all of her clumsiness had disappeared. Lady Gisela grabbed the chain connected to her handcuffs and dragged Sophie by her side down the dark hallway.
Then Lady Gisela slipped a blindfold over her face. Sophie still didn't trip. It was like her legs knew how to walk correctly for once...
That gun definitely did something weird to her legs.
The temperature of the air shifted from a breeze to room temperature. Like they had gone from outside back inside. Lady Gisela helped Sophie settle into a chair. Then she ripped off the blindfold. Sophie glanced around the room.
"It's empty." Sophie noted.
"Yes. But not for long." Lady Gisela said absentmindedly. She was clicking random buttons on a computer with her back turned to Sophie.
"Why did you make me lick that square yesterday?" Sophie asked quietly. Lady Gisela laughed.
"I can't believe you haven't figured it out already. Or... Maybe the Black Swan didn't tell you." Lady Gisela murmured.
"What didn't they tell me?" Sophie pressed.
"There's a very powerful machine that I've discovered. It was created by Vespera, but then I killed her, so... Anyway, the machine changes the perspectives of people. For better or for worse." Lady Gisela paused to let that sink in. "And your DNA is the only thing that activates this machine. What better way to do that then to kidnap you?"
Sophie was absolutely speechless.
She never should've licked that stupid metal square.
She never thought she'd be thinking that, but things were definitely weird these days.
The chair that Sophie was sitting in suddenly locked around her wrists.
"Hey! You're not allowed to kill me, remember?" Sophie exclaimed when Lady Gisela started rolling a giant deadly looking contraption towards her. Lady Gisela laughed again.
"It won't kill you. That's all you need to know." Lady Gisela replied. Sophie's heart spiked with fear as the machine became closer by the second.
"Alright... I'm going to start the ten second countdown... And then you'll be a completely new person! Aren't you excited?" Lady Gisela asked. Before Sophie could answer, Lady Gisela clicked a button on her bracelet, initiating a shield to cover her. Then she pushed the marble.
Sophie's eyes flicked to the machine. A deadly looking marble was rolling down the track, and when she glanced at the end, it had a giant red button.
That was the button that would change everything about what she thought.
She might not even remember Keefe... Ever again.
She sent a wish through her mind, hoping he could hear it: "Keefe, I love you. That will never change, no matter what happens. Please don't hate me. Don't feel guilty. Goodbye."
Then the marble rolled on the red button...
Everything blacked out.
