Chapter Two

"Girlfriend?!" Iwaizumi says in a teasing manner. "It feels like I haven't seen you with a girlfriend in forever and you get a girlfriend who's actually pretty cute I mean just look at her." He says still teasing him while looking at me.

"Oh we're not-" The sound of the coach's whistle cuts me off and all the boys begin to jog back to the center of the court to continue their practice.

Oikawa chuckles quietly at the interaction not phased by Iwaizumi's teasing. I just get more flustered as they join the rest of the team back on the court.

I should have expected to be looked at as one of his new girlfriend's. Oikawa is known to have different girls around him and everyone probably just thinks I'm a new one.

I sigh at the thought but quickly shrug it off as I'll only have to deal with it until this month is over. It will go by fast considering we're already halfway through the month anyway.

As their practice continues I can't help but analyze each of their skills and how they all work as a team.

They're now doing a mock game and as Oikawa serves the ball I notice his hand position is off slightly causing the ball to fall a bit flat on its trajectory.

I can see that he's getting frustrated and it makes me wonder if he knows the mistake he made or not. I wouldn't be surprised if he's not sure, it's hard to tell when your positioning is off when your in the middle of a game.

Their coach makes him redo his serve and just as he's about to send another ball out, I say something. "Your hand positioning is off." I say quietly.

This makes him completely miss the ball as it bounces on the court in front of him. "What?" He asks confusedly while turning to me.

The rest of the team also begins to look at me and I get a bit nervous. "Your hand positioning is off slightly, that's why your last serve was flat."

Oikawa blinks a couple of times, probably trying to figure out if he heard me correctly. "How did you figure that out?" He asks, he sounded surprised as all his teammates continue to stare at me.

I just shrug. "I used to play so I could tell your positioning was off." He gives me a shocked look and begins to open his mouth to speak but the coach interrupts him.

"Less side-line chatter would be appreciated. Get back to practicing boys." He blows his whistle again and as Oikawa picks up the ball he gives me a look implying that we'll continue talking about this later.

I began to put some of my school supplies back in my backpack as Oikawa packed up his volleyball bag. "Let me go change real quick then we can start to head to my place." I give him a small nod while he jogs to catch up with the rest of the team.

I wait patiently as Oikawa goes back to change out of his uniform and by the time he comes back with his everyday clothes on, the rest of the volleyball team walks out of the gym.

Oikawa walks over to me and places his hands on his hips. "You ready to go?" I give him another nod as I swing my school bag on my shoulder and follow him out of the gym.

We both begin making our way to his house, we walk for a couple of minutes before he says something to me. "So you've played volleyball before?"

I can tell he is curious about it just by the gleam in his eyes. "Yeah, I played in middle school. I won a few small awards for it as well."

"Really? Do you still play or have you just stopped completely?" He tilts his head in intrigue, he seems genuinely interested in what I have to say.

"I stopped when I started going to Aoba Johsai. My parents said I needed to focus on my academics more." I shrug as I finish answering his question.

"That makes sense, even though it does kind of suck. You were probably really good at it." He says. "I don't know if you'd be as good as me, though." He adds with a teasing smirk.

I give him a smile in return. "Oh I was really good. Best libero out there. And trust me I'm definitely as good as you even if I'm a little rusty." I tease back.

"Rusty is an understatement." He then snickers as he says this while we both continue walking, after a second he asks another question.

"Do you think you could take me on in a game of volleyball?" I think for a moment. "Considering our positions it wouldn't be much of a game."

"It would be more of a "see who lets the ball hit the ground first" kind of game. But yeah I'd definitely beat you." I grin at him. I'm surprised at how much I'm opening up to him right now.

He raises his eyebrow playfully. "Oh really now? You think so?" He asks, his playful smirk slowly turns into a look of challenge.

"I know so." I hum out. "Oh yeah? And what exactly makes you so confident that you could beat me, a skilled setter?" He asks, he's trying to look confident yet playful, but I could see his cocky side coming out.

He starts to slow his pace and I assume we're getting close to his house. I match my pace with his as I respond.

"The number one rule of volleyball is to make sure the ball never hits the ground. I'm pretty good at following that rule."

"So you're telling me, you can stop my serves?" He asks, his cocky smirk appears again as he waits for my answer. "Absolutely." I say without any hesitation.

"You're quite full of yourself, you know that?" He then lets out a soft laugh as we both keep walking.

I laugh as well. "I could say the same thing to you." He then stops in front of a house and begins to unlock the door.

"Hey, I'm just being confident in my abilities, you're the one trying to say that you can beat me in a game of volleyball." He says, he chuckles softly as he opens the door.

"You know what? I think we should make a bet, make things a little interesting." We both walk into his house as he adds this part.

I raised an eyebrow at him this time. "Oh? A bet? What kind of bet are you thinking?"

"If I win you owe me a free dinner." He says, his tone of voice implies that he's completely confident he's going to win.

I laugh. "And if I win you owe me a free dinner. Deal?" He takes no time to think it over and extends his hand out to me. "Deal."

"And may the better volleyball player win." He adds on as we are shaking hands. I repeat the phrase and we let go of each other's hands.

I then glance around the room we are in and hum out. "Nice place." He takes his shoes off and I follow suit.

"Thanks, My parents really decorated it nicely." He says with a smile as he starts to walk towards the staircase.

I follow behind him and I assume we are headed to his bedroom. He opens the door to his bedroom and he gestures for me to go in first. "Come on in."

As I enter the room I can't help but look around, his entire room has a sports theme to it which I expected as much.

He tosses his bag on the ground and sits on his bed with his laptop. I continue to stand and feel a bit awkward not knowing what to do.

"Go ahead and sit." He says as he notices how I'm still standing and a bit awkward, he motions for me to sit down on the bed.

I remove my bag from the shoulder and rummage around in it for my laptop as I take a seat next to him. "Alright let's get some of this project done so we can talk about how our little competition will work out." I grin at him as I turn on my laptop.

"Alright let's go over the information we've found online so far and we can probably get the introduction paragraph done." I nod as we begin to skim over our notes and write a right draft of an introduction paragraph.
