"I HAD A REALLY NICE TIME TONIGHT," will says, eyes pinned to mine with an intensity that has me wanting to take a quick step back in retreat.
instead, i force an awkward smile. "oh yeah, me too."
it's not a total lie, i mean i did have a good time, but that's all it was—good. the kind of good i feel like when we study together at the library. or when we meet up while walking from class to class.
he glances away and shoves both hands into the pockets of his perfectly pressed khakis. "i hope we can do this again." there's a pause before he continues on, "soon."
i look toward the front door of my house, wishing my mom is able to hear us and swings the door open with sly commentary to save me.
