When I was a kid, I loved the color pink. It became everything to me. When my mother would take me to cafes and boba parlors, I would always, without fail, reach for the pink straw. Every pink stuffed animal I saw, I would beg my parents to buy so that it could find a home in our quiet apartment.

Looking back at it now, I appreciate them for feeding into my requests. If I had been a little wiser and knew that they barely had enough to make ends meet, I wouldn't have begged for the overpriced toys.

They didn't have much, but when they had a little extra, they would always spend it on me. I had a quiet childhood, in comparison to others. The nightmare began later. We certainly weren't the wealthiest, but we were happy.

It wasn't a surprise on my sixth birthday, when they offered to redecorate my room, that I had chosen a pale pink color for my walls.

My bedroom isn't what you would expect it to look like. It was light and colorful, a sharp contrast to my appearance.

I was always adorned in dark tops and bottoms, and it didn't help that my hair was pitch black. Which is why, on the rare occasion that people see my room, they're usually left in shock.

It looked like a room fit for a princess, or a little girl. Pink sheets, pink walls, white bedframe, white desk, white bookshelf, pink mirror.

All remnants of my childhood. The only glimpses into the person I was now were the few posters on the wall of my favorite shows and bands, and the frame on my desk of me with friends.
