A New Dawn

While making my way to the Department, I encounter my friend Jerry. "Oh hey Jerry, how's the day?" I ask. "Decent, met some hot chicks for us!" He responds, trying to get me on a date. "I'd have to pass." I say. "Such a party pooper." He says, letting out a slight chuckle. We walk to the department together in silence.

I say my goodbyes to Jerry and go to visit the lieutenant, Lieutenant Johnson. Letting out a sigh "What brings you to my office, Tapia." He says. "They got away again..." I say with a disappointed look. He sighs again. "Tapia, I told you to get off this case. It's been 7 years since her death. You have to let it go, we'll catch them when we can." He says with a stern tone. "but sir, X is out and killing more than ever this year! We have to do something about it!" I say, trying to get my point through. "Tapia, LISTEN TO ME! Vanessa is gone. X so happened to have her on their list, you couldn't do anything. We couldn't do anything." He says, catching the attention of the whole department.

Tim lets himself in. "Hey, what's the problem, Taylor? What has the boss yelling like that?" He asks with a bit of concern. "He wants me to get off the X case." I say. "Well, you do need a break..." He says. "How about us and some pals hit the bar later today?" He says, whispering into my ear. "Tapia, just listen. Listen to Torres, and take a break. Just a couple of weeks is all, please, for your wellbeing." He says anxiously. "Fine." I say, walking out of Lieutenant Johnson's office. 

As planned by Tim, he, I, and some buddies went out to a bar. There was Max, Tony, and Jerry. Jerry of course was talking about the girls he- what'd he say? "Pulled?" What does that even mean? Sorry, I got sidetracked. Max, Tony, and Tim laugh when Jerry says this. While laughing, Tim says "I bet you 'pulled' a real baddie!" This makes me let out a slight chuckle. Jerry turns to me "Hey Tay, at least I'm not single." The whole table goes silent. "What the fuck, Jerry?" Tim, Max, and Tony all say in unison. "What?" Jerry says. "Why would you say that?" Tony says. 

I walk out of the bar. Wondering why Jerry could think to say something like that. I reach my building after a long night. It was about 1 am when it happened again. *Pow* I leap out of bed to investigate what happened next door. Jerry's room. I wasn't able to catch X again, but I saw it. The gun that had been fired to signal a killing. Somehow still smoking. They weren't too far. I dash for the exit of the building, pushing through the people in the halls. It wasn't enough, yet another detainment attempt failed.
