bigmanbernie tell her!! (u won't.)
yungmoneygamer matt.

when lunch came around, jamie and matt walked in silence to the table. as they approached it, however, matt stopped her.

"jamie, i need to tell you something." he said. jamie looked at him.

"okay..." she squinted at him, as if trying to read his thoughts. matt sighed.

"okay, well, i feel like you deserve to know what's been going on and—"

"matthew bernard sturniolo." nick's voice interrupted. jamie turned around. "when the fuck were you planning to tell us that you're talking to someone?"

"wait, what?" jamie looked back toward matt, whose eyes widened as he sat down on the lunch bench. jamie sat next to him.

"shit." he cursed under his breath. "how the fuck did you know?"

"you really think you could start talking to brionna laverne, also known as the hottest girl in the school, and it wouldn't start spreading?" nick asked, incredulously, taking the seat across from them. jamie gasped.

"brionna laverne? holy shit, matt!"

"what happened?" caroline and isaiah arrived at the table.

"matt pulled brionna laverne." jamie told them. caroline nearly dropped her lunch bag.

"no fucking way. she's like, the only popular person i can actually tolerate."

"agreed." nick nodded. "she's actually so nice."

"i know." matt replied. "why do you think i'm talking to her?"

"how long have you guys been talking?" jamie asked. she noticed that matt was avoiding her eyes.

"um, a couple days now." he said. jamie wondered if this was the reason he's been dry with her lately. a couple days ago was when he walked away from her so suddenly at the end of school. he's barely spoken full sentences to her since then.

"oh." jamie replied, bitterly. "good to know." matt finally looked at her. jamie couldn't read his expression, but she could tell he was confused by her reaction.

"guys..." caroline started. "why is chris walking toward us?"

"alone, too." isaiah added. "paris was here today, wasn't she?"

"yeah, she was." nick said. "but chris rode with us today. something about how he and paris were gonna talk before school started."

"oh my god." caroline gasped. "do you think they broke up?"

"god, i hope so." nick said. "i was getting sick of her."

"chris, are you okay?" jamie asked as chris neared the table. she noticed that he looked a little sad.

"um, yeah." he said. "paris and i broke up this morning." he told the group. jamie had to stop herself from cheering.

"oh my god, what? are you okay?" matt asked him. chris gave him a look that no one could read.

"yeah, i'm fine. matt, can we talk?"

"sure." matt got up and followed him. jamie couldn't help but look after the two as they head to the corner of the building, where jamie had her last normal conversation with matt just days before. jamie stopped herself. why was she thinking so much about when she and matt last spoke?

"so..." isaiah coughed. "are we gonna talk about it?" everyone's eyes landed on jamie, who bit her lip nervously.

"talk about what?" she tried. nick narrowed his eyes.

"no, don't give us that." nick said. "how do you feel about chris and paris breaking up?"

"i'd be an asshole if i said i didn't feel bad for them?"

"but do you really?" caroline asked. "jamie, for the past few months you've been missing chris. and now he and paris are finally over and he's single again. you have your second chance right now."

"carol!" jamie scolded her friend. "they broke up this morning. have some dignity. at least wait a day before talking about me getting with chris again."

"so you really want to get back with chris?" nick asked her. jamie nodded.

"of course i do, but..." she thought back to matt and the look he gave her when jamie made that remark about him talking to brionna laverne. it was almost as if he didn't expect her to react that way. jamie knew how she sounded and she hated herself for it.

"but what..." caroline narrowed her eyes. "jamie, you're seriously not thinking about matt and brionna, are you?"

"what? no!" jamie protested. "why would i? i don't even like matt like that."

"no one said you did." isaiah said. "but you did seem to care more than the rest of us that he was talking to someone."

"i just wasn't expecting it, that's all." jamie tried to convince them. nick gave her a skeptical look.

"are you sure?"

"i'm positive." jamie nodded. caroline shrugged.

"okay...but we have to figure out how the hell you're going to get back with chris."

"we have plenty of time, carol. let chris get over paris, first." jamie told her. nick scoffed.

"how could he get over someone he never really liked in the first place?" he asked. caroline and isaiah laughed. jamie tried to laugh, but she couldn't help but think.

she thought about how matt had kissed her just a month and a half ago and then pretended it never happened. and how chris dated her for four years and threw it all away like it was nothing.

and for the first time in her life, jamie was feeling extremely conflicted.
