"so, when's your eighteenth birthday?" brady asked her. maryah's brain stopped working for a split second as she realized that brady noon was actually trying to have a conversation with her.

"um, it's in september. still another eight months." 

"any plans for valentine's day?" maryah froze and turned around, making eye contact with brady. 

"valentine's day isn't for another month." she said, skeptically. brady shrugged. 

"so? i asked if you have any plans." 

"um, no. i don't." she mumbled. brady raised his eyebrows. 

"so, you're single, then?" he asked. maryah's eyes widened. there was no way that brady noon, captain of the hockey team, one of the most popular seniors in school, and not to mention, her brother's best friend, was asking if maryah was single. 

"um..." maryah started to answer before someone rudely interrupted them. 

"hello? brady?" cameron walked out of the hallway that led to the kitchen and living room. "what the hell are you doing out here? connor walked in like five minutes ago."

"i just had to ask ryah something." brady replied. cameron looked between them, suspiciously.

"alright..." he said. "c'mon, bro, we were about to start the movie without you."

"you seriously couldn't wait five minutes?" brady rolled his eyes, following cameron into the living room. maryah immediately ran upstairs. she needed to be as far from brady as possible.
