Selena and I are sitting in the hallways, having our little talking session like best friends do, sometimes the topic varies and is usually based on whatever's relevant.

"-And I'm going to France this summer! Can't wait." Selena is excited just talking about it.

"Ooh sounds fun girl is it the south of France?" My favourite part, although I've never been, but I've seen on Pinterest.

"Yesss I have family there so we can stay at theirs, they live by the beach you know. What about you any plans abroad?"

"I'm going to wales with my family. Hiking." I look at her with a worried expression. Selena tells me "good luck" as she bites into her chocolate bar.

"I'll need it" I say while shoving her slightly.

"Mmmmmhhmmhmmhmmm" Selena tries to tell me something with a mouth full of chocolate.

She had definitely remembered some tea she was meant to tell me earlier and only just realised now.

"Girl eat, and then, talk." I advise. Not even a second passes and Selena has already digested, bursting out the tea,

"You know Josh is dating someone!"

The last person Josh dated was a girl named Emily, she was a natural blonde with blue eyes and was very slim. They lasted for about 2 weeks.

"Who is it?" I questioned thinking it was probably someone like Emily. Skinny. Blonde. Pretty.

"It's Nicole!" Selena bursted out in a way that only I could hear and maybe the year 7s within two meters of us in the corridor but even then, they had their own conversations to listen to.

"No way!! Whattt I'm so shocked I would've never put those two together." I respond in shock.

"Exactly!! Like she's all look at me, choose me, pick me" Selena flicks her hair, imitating Nicole. "And he's just... he's just Josh." Selena continued.

I didn't know what to say to 'he's just Josh' because outside of French class, he didn't really talk to us. He was just a decent lad for all we knew.

"I know right, Nicole needs a guy who's... different to Josh like-"

"A pick me boy to match her."

We both exchange looks and burst out laughing. The warm feeling of laughing rises my temperature and my cheekbones start to feel like they're about to explode from smiling too much.

BAHH BAHH BAHH BAHH BAHH BAHH

That was the bell signalling the end of break time.

"Yo I got Biology! Meet you at lunchtime yeah." I tell Selena before we go our separate ways.

"I got RE! Yeah bro meet in this corridor." Selena told me as she went off on her way to lesson.

Biology was a decent lesson, I sat next to Rosalind who was a good friend of mine since year 7. But I also sat next to Henry the skater boy who smelt like cigarettes and smoke. On the left of Rosalind we had a member of one the year's 'mandem' who used enough Lynx Africa to trigger asthma attacks.

I copy down the title and learning objective of the lesson: The Heart. To be able to understand how to draw a diagram of th-  my pen runs out. As I go to grab my pencil case for another pen, it's gone. I look at the mandem. Side eye. They reply weakly with, "It wasn't me!" his hands are up as if he was about to get arrested by me. Rosalind discreetly and observantly points with her chewed up grey pen in the direction of my clear rectangular pencil case. I turn around to face the back. My pencil case was sitting there oddly on Nicole's desk. Without hesitation, I get up from my seat and snatch my own pencil case off her desk.
