𝑇𝐻𝐸𝑅𝐸 𝑊𝐴𝑆 𝐶𝐻𝐴𝑇𝑇𝐸𝑅 𝐴𝑅𝑂𝑈𝑁𝐷 the BAU that they were getting a new member. There wasn't an open spot since the last time there was, Elle and Valentina filled it. It wasn't as if the team was struggling with cases, they were better than ever, but their bigger concern was with newer agents.
No matter how long an FBI agent has been within the Bureau, if they're new to the BAU, they may just not fit in. Everyone in the BAU has a place and has minds that compliment each other so perfectly. No matter if their strengths are physical, people skills, experience, or quite literally being geniuses, each member of the BAU has their place; it's hard to just join in.
As the BAU had gone into the briefing room, where Hotch and Gideon were waiting with the new agent, they all filtered in. Valentina had stopped dead in her tracks, immediately recognising the blonde woman before her.
Hotch introduced, "Everyone, this is Agent Florence Barnes. The Bureau is putting together a major task force in the Crimes Against Children Unit, which Agent Barnes will be taking over. But, in the meantime, she will be working with us."
"It's nice to meet you all and see you again, Valentina." Florence greeted the girl, who only sent her a small smile. Hotch was slightly confused by the fact that Florence was able to identify their newest agent by name, so he had to ask, "You two know each other?"
"She's my aunt." Valentina explained before Florence made a point of her own in regards to this relationship, "But please, I do not want Valentina and myself to be associated. I have my work and she has her work, we're both separate agents who happen to share a last name."
Valentina has never really wanted to be affiliated with her family. She doesn't want their money, scandal, or pity. Valentina wanted to and did make her own way in this world without the help of her family, but people may not see that.
