A swan song is a term used to refer to a final performance, effort, or gesture before death.

After several months of feeling sick, Erik Destler finally visited a town doctor. The town doctor quickly realized that Erik was a sick man with a death sentence. Carefully, he told the mysterious man that he had a serious condition in his lungs.

When the man seemed confused, the doctor gently said, "Monsieur, you have no more than a year to live."

"Thank you," Erik nodded, curtly.

He rose slowly to his feet and returned to the catacombs. He sat quietly at his organ and replayed the doctor's words in his head.

For a man who had wished for death as the relief to his suffering, Erik Destler found himself wishing for something he didn't have... time.
