Chapter sixty: The End

Start from the beginning

Sunshine looked over the hills happy with the instrument. She was talking and laughing with Cumulus, who was sitting on the edge of her stage.

Before I had time to say anything more, Rain quickly hid behind my back. "What are you doing?" I laughed. "Hide me." He whined. I look to the front and noticed Sodo heading towards us. "Hey Sodo, how are you doing?" I asked amused.

"Is he really trying to hide from me?" Sodo laughed. "What? Who?" I asked, acting innocent. "Rain." Sodo said, stepping right in front of the stage. "Oh Rain, I haven't seen him. Maybe Aether knows?" I giggled, shrugging my shoulders. "I can literally see him behind you." Sodo laughed. "You better go Sodo, we are about to start the next song." I laughed. "I guess I'll go and tease Phantom then" Sodo shrugged. "But Rainy, I'll be back." Sodo teased and started to walk away.

I could feel Rain wrap his arms around me and place his chin over my shoulder. "Thank you." He whispered.

"Rain, why don't you just tell him to stop teasing you if you don't like it?" I asked. "I mean, it's- it's not that I don't like it- but-" He stuttered. "Rain!?" I exclaimed laughing and turned to look at him. "What?" He looked at me amused. "Then why are you hiding?" I laughed. "Everyone is watching." He said. "You are cute, you know that?" I giggled. Rain just smiled back to me and stepped back to stand next to me.

Next song started and it was my turn to sing.

Can you hear me say your name, forever?

Can you see me longing for you, forever, forever?

Would you let me touch your soul, forever?

Can you feel me longing for you, forever, forever?

Personally I have always loved this song and I'm so happy to hear it performed live. The crowd sang the lyrics with us. Most of the crows also had their flashlights raised up. It looked really beautiful, like a sky full of stars.

I felt Rain grab my hand slightly. I looked up to him smiling. I lifted the mic between us so he could sing with me. I leaned the side of my head against his and sang the lyrics.

We dance once more, I feel your hands are cold.

Within your heart, a story to be told.

This is the moment of just letting go.

When the song ended, Rain grabbed the mic from my hands and placed it back to the mic stand. He placed his hand gently on my cheek, turning my head towards his. He had a loving smile on his face and before I knew, he pressed his lips against mine. I closed my eyes and melted into the kiss.

At that moment I didn't even remember that the crowd was there, it was just me and him.

"I can see that you're getting comfortable in there Rain, do you want your bass back?" Sunshine laughed. We quickly broke the kiss and noticed Sunshine standing in front of the stage. "Oh yeah." Rain laughed and jumped down from the stage. "It was fun, but I'm not a singer." Rain laughed, adjusting his guitar strap. "I think you sounded amazing." Sunshine smiled and climbed back on the stage."Well, don't tell Copia. I like playing bass." Rain laughed and headed to the middle of the stage.

Three more songs went by and there were only a few songs left. Me and Sunshine were sharing the mic and singing the lyrics together.

Time to time Copia had turned the volume of ours and Swiss' and Aurora's mics up and he would stop singing.

When the summer dies.

Severing the ties.

I'm with you always.

Always.

Will you walk the line?

My path serpentine.

Remember always.

That love is all you need.

Tell me who you wanna be.

And I will set you free.

I could feel a tear roll down my cheek, I wish this wasn't the end, but still I know that it had to be done.

I quickly wiped away the tear, but of course Sunshine noticed, she always does. She wrapped her arm around my waist and pulled me to lean against her side. "This isn't the end. I can feel it." She smiled. "I hope you're right." I sighed, leaning my head against her's.

We finished the song and it was time for the last song. All of us headed to the front of the stage and stood in a line. We would play the last song all together. "Thank you everyone for being here with us tonight, it has been an unforgettable night. This is going to be our last song. All of you take care of each other, in the end, that's all we have." Copia said and just as he finished the music started to play.

We will break away together.

I'll be the shadow.

You'll be the light.

Nothing ever lasts forever.

We will go softly.

Into the night.

(There is no way to describe Sodo's solo and outro of this song so feel free and go listen Respite on the spitalfields while reading the rest❤️‍🩹.)

I couldn't hold back anymore. I was in tears and so was everyone else. All of us took each other's hands, like we always do at the end of the ritual, but this time we stayed there longer, just watching the crowd.

They didn't abandon us. They accept us and I can feel that this hurts them as much as it hurts us.

Bundles of flowers, stuffed animals, drawings and all sorts of stuff kept flying over to the stage.

I looked at both of my sides. When I thought back to my time in hell, I saw other people as a burden or as a threat. I was scared of everyone, but now that I look at these ghouls and ghoulettes on my side, they were my family and I wouldn't change it for anything.

I had found love, I had found friends, I had found myself a family.

I wasn't scared anymore.

Thank you everyone

It has been 6 months since I started to write this story and honestly I never was sure if I would have motivation to finish it. This is the longest story I have ever written, but I don't regret a tiniest bit of it. I hope all of you enjoyed this story as much as I did. I will be writing another Ghost story, but when it will be, we'll see. Thank you for reading my story, it means a world to me. I wish all of you the best🤍
