The cold, coarse sand gritted against her feet as she ran. Her body, slick with sweat, sticky from the dried blood, pushed forward.

What could she do, without Theo getting her out of it? Their last interaction played over in her head.

"Lorelei, talk some sense here! You're being unreasonable." "No! You don't get to say that when you helped them do this to me." Lorelei cried.

"Me?" Theo shouted, "You're blaming me? Like it's my fault that you tried to burn down the town; kill The Fathers? Kill my father?"

"Just leave! If you're not going to help me, go. I can't do this with you." Theo rushed towards her. "I'm not leaving, we're in this together! We can do this toget–" His words cut off, as Lorelei struck him with a paperweight.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she slowed to a jog, before stopping, bending over and placing her hands on her knees. As Lorelei gasped for air, she took a moment to look at her surroundings.

Everywhere she looked, there were only trees. Spruce, cedar, pine. She could still smell the smoke; still see the remnants of the treacherous fire.
