the humble diesel shunter was revolutionized by the LMS, Ruston & Hornsby, Earl of Dudleys Railway and other industrial railways. Shunting was done by hand on much of the rail network for many years even with shunting locos. Until the founding of BR (British Rail 1948-1997) after the founding of BR major marshalling yards were founded meaning steam and diesel shunters worked together until 1955 when the modernization plan was put into motion.

British Rail Class 08 Shunter: Produced between (1952 and 1962) there were (996) produced for BR to shunt passenger coaches and other rollingstock, as of now only (180) are still operational.

British Rail Class 09 Shunter: Produced between (1959 and 1962) there were (26) Produced and (25) still survive today. The locomotives have the same purpose as most other shunters. the loco above is a 08 run by foster yeoman a rail pioneer who invested in the class 59 a large powerful mainline loco.

British Rail Class 10 Shunter: Produced between (1955 and 1962) there were (146) members of the class produced out of those (146) only (4) survive today

Shunters are vital to the railways you can usually find them shunting in yards or running services on heritage railways. They're not to difficult to find so if you want to see one go down to a local heritage railway or a SAFE area overlooking a yard like a hill or embankment and remember NEVER TRESPASS ON THE RAILWAY.

Class 01

The humble class 01 was built between 1956-1958 they have a max speed of 15 mph

Class 01/5

The class 01/5 is very similar to the class 01 with but there are many more class 01/5s with 62 being built 3 scrapped the rest preserved

The class 02s were built between 1960-1961 20 were built 7 were preserved and 13 scrapped i have a connection to the class 02s with D2853 & D2868 working for L.C.P Fuel Co. on the Pensnett Trading Estate. The 02 have a max speed of 20 mph.

Class 03

The class 03s were built between 1957-1961, 230 were produced and 56 were preserved 174 were scrapped

The class 03s were built between 1957-1961, 230 were produced and 56 were preserved 174 were scrapped .
