Chapter Five: "Tortured Soul"

With no luck finding a job, Kai went to a diner, had a coffee, sitting by a window, looking at the city view, people passing by and cars driving past it, people coming in and going out, Kai was ever observant, the waitress at the establishment came over to ask if he wanted any food, Kai declined and she walks away from him, he stops her and asks for more coffee which she brings and had a smile on her face. After an hour of Kai sitting there, the waitress came back and asked if she could make him their special, seeing that she probably won't let it go and being that she is determined and not wanting to let her down he accepts the offer, she smiled breathing a sigh of relief making Kai smile and she walks away to give the order to the chef, Kai always carried a gun with him, a black 9 millimetre. The door bell of the diner sounds, a woman wearing black dress, white blouse, and a blazer put on her shoulders carrying a purse with her brown hair cut short and straightened, she wore dark shades, seeing Kai she smirked and went to sit in front of him, Kai  kept his attention on the coffee he was drinking, not looking at the woman sitting across from him, eyes were on them, the waitress looked as well as she wipes the counter.

"Hello Malakai"

The woman said as Kai looked at her and sighs, his hand was under the table reaching for his gun but the lady reassured him he was in no danger....yet.

"Who are you?"

Kai asks looking her up and down.

"Nobody"

She responds making Kai chuckle and nods, she proceeds to tell him her reason for finding him and his need of having a purpose, a meaningful purpose after his retirement from the marines, Kai looks at her and squints wondering how she knows about him

"I was sent here because of your background Malakai, because my boss has a job he wants you to do for him"

She said, Kai chuckles and declines the offer not wanting to know what it is but the woman tells him of the death of his mother and the death of his father and his family, he knows he is running and hiding and could expose him should he decline. Kai glares at her for a moment and saw he had no choice, and does not know all the players in this game he opts to accept and play along for now

"Alright Ms Nobody, what's the job?"

Kai asks as the woman smiled, she hands him a burner phone and tells him her boss will call to tell him all about it, and warns him that if he does not cooperate he will be exposed, she gets up and leaves the table walking out of the diner, Kai takes the phone in his left hand and looked at it for a moment before placing it in his pocket, the waitress brings his plate of food and asks if everything was okay, appreciating her concern he tells her he was fine and began to eat, complimenting the food as if she made it herself, she thanks him and left him in peace. Back at the motel Kai returns to his room, taking the keys and phone out from the pocket of his jacket including the burner phone, placing them both next to the lit lamp, he sits on a couch and turns on the TV, having a beer in his hand he sat comfortably, then the burner phone rings, he looks at it and was hesitated to answer but eventually he got up from the chair  walking slowly toward it, his heart pounding fast fearing the unknown, he slowly reached his right hand down and picks it up, pressing the answer button and slowly brought it up to his ear

"Hello Kai, my name is Midas. You don't know me and I'd like to keep it that way"

Midas said using a voice enhancer to change the tone of their voice so Kai could not tell if the person was indeed a man or a woman, Ms Nobody at the diner might have said the pronoun “he” just to throw him off
