Part 10 - Keys and Chess

"This is no graveyard." Ron said walking past all the statues towards a clearer area. "It's a chessboard."

As he said that the whole room lit up. We all walked towards Ron in the middle of the room. Harry, Ron and Mione tried to walk past the other statues on the other side of the room. I stayed where I was. And as I thought the first lot of statues which are the pawns in muggle chess pulled out their swords. The three backed up.

"The stone is protected by challenges. We can't just walk through the door. We have to finish the challenge." I said looking at them. The pawns went back into their original positions.

"So what do we do?" Mione asked looking at all three of us.

"It's obviously, isn't it? We have to play our way across the room." Ron said turning to all of us. "Alright. Harry you take the empty Bishop's square. Hermione, you'll be the queen-side castle. Yn, you be the queen. As for me, I'll be a knight."

I walk over to the empty square where the queen should be. Ron gets on top of a horse. Harry is two squares away from me and Hermione is three squares away.

"What happens now?" Hermione asked looking at Ron who is the chess expert.

"Well, whites move first. And then .... We play." Ron said as whites start to move.

"Ron you don't suppose this is going to be like real wizards chess, do you?" Hermione said as I a worried look appeared on her face which made it creep onto my face. Ron completely ignored her and told a pawn to go to (D,5). When the pawn got there the white pawn destroyed it.

"Yes Hermione. I think this is exactly like wizards chess." Ron said with the worried look now on all our faces.

We play and we were losing. Our pieces kept being destroyed. We did destroy a lot of whites pieces. The entire place was a landmine with all the pieces exploding all over the place. I even got hit in the head. There was blood now going down my face. We kept playing. The only pieces left on the white side is the king and the queen. On our side was me, Mione, Harry, Ron and the king.

"Wait a minute." Harry said with a surprised look on his face. I have no idea what was going on.

"You understand right, Harry. Once I make my move, the queen will take me. Then you're free to check the king." Ron said.

"No! RON NOO!" Harry yelled.

"What is it?" Hermione ask as me and her didn't understand what was happening.

"He's going to sacrifice himself." Harry answered.

"No you can't there must be another way." Hermione yelled.

"Do you want to stop Snape from getting that stone or not? Harry it's you that has to go on. I know it. Not me. Not Hermione. Not Yn. You." Ron said we all nodded understanding that this had to be done. Ron braced himself before saying. "Knight to H3."

Ron's horse began to move. Once it reached its destination, we waited for whites to move. The queen slowly turned to Ron and then the queen made her way to him. The queen stabbed the horse knocking Ron off his horse. Ron was now knocked out. Hermione instinctively went to help but was yelled at by Harry reminding her that they were still playing. Harry made his move towards the king.

"Check mate!" Harry said to the king. The king dropped his sword on the floor signaling that we had won. As soon as the sword dropped we made our way to Ron. Harry checked the side of my face where i was hit while Mione checked that Ron was still breathing. "Take care off Ron. Then go to the Owlery. Send a message to Dumbledore. Ron's right. I have to go on."

"You'll be okay, Harry. You're a great wizard. You really are." Hermione said.

"Not as good as you two." Harry said glancing at Ron.

"Us? Books and cleverness. There are more important things. Friendship and bravery. And, Harry, just be careful." Hermione said while I genuinely smiled. Harry nodded and made his way on.

I prepared myself to help Mione carry Ron. Until she stopped me.

"Go with him." She said to me.

"But how will you get Ron back up without my help?" I said looking at her.

"It doesn't matter. He needs you Yn."

"But I don't even have my own wand how can I help. My training wand isn't made for combat." I looked down in disbelief.

"Yn you are one of the most amazing people I know. You don't have a wand because even you said it yourself. Your magic is stronger than anyone's. You don't know when to give up and you don't need a wand to defend for yourself." Hermione said. I looked up at her and nodded my head. I stood up preparing myself to help Harry before asking her.

"Are you sure."

"Go help him." I nodded my head and ran after him.

When I reached him we were heading down some stairs. Harry turned around and looked at me confused.

"Why are you here?" He asked stopping on the stairs.

"Helping you." I answered simply.

"No you are not. I'm not going to risk your life anymore tonight. You got badly hurt back there." He said full of concern.

"Well I'm not going to let you face Snape or any other challenges alone. So either we let Snape and Voldemort win or you take me with you and try to protect me." I said smiling innocently.

"Fine but stay behind me." He said. I nodded my head and followed him down the stairs.
