Pa was the one that got me.

"Aquene where the hell have you been, what're you doing in those clothes?"

I just stared at him.

"I looked everywhere for you, I figured you'd be in town where you can tell everyone where we been hiding. You know your friend ratted me out. You want me to go to jail don't you!?"

Again, I just stared at him.

"Answer me little girl!"

"I'm ok, it was just a little joke."

"You were just getting away from me? How ungrateful you are! I bet you'd be more grateful when I show you what I  found."

He took my hand and we started walking.

"What did you find?"

"Treasure," he grinned.

"One-Eyed Murrell's treasure?"

He nodded.

"We'll have our farm and all the animals you can play with."

"There really isn't gonna be a farm, is there?"

"What, you think I'm lying?"

"There's no farm, no animals, just some greedy stick in the mud."

He stopped and looked at me.

"Who do you think you're talking to girl!?"

"Someone who cares more about anything but their child!"

"Watch your goddamn mouth!"

"I gave you a test that you apparently failed! I ran off for a reason, you were happy I was gone!"

He tightened his grip on me.

We arrived at a cave.

"That's where I hid the treasure."

We walked in but saw Tom opening the chest. Pa went and slapped him to the ground.

"Looks like I got it all, the treasure, and you!"

Tom hit Pa on the leg with an old sword. He got up as Pa was in pain.

"I saw you take Aquene, I followed you both! She's right, you don't love her!"

Tom charged but Pa hit him again. The sword slid over to the edge of a large hole and fell down. Pa had a hold of him.

"Hey!"

We turned to see Huck jump down and kick Pa. His hat fell down the hole. We helped Huck up as Pa regained his composure.

"I know you," Pa said to Huck.

He started walking, Huck shielded us from him.

"Huck," Tom said.

Pa paced around him.

"You're Pap Finn's boy...Blueberry."

"Huckleberry."

"Your daddy was the best knife fighter on the Mississippi. Did he teach you?"

"He taught me."

"Huh, then let's see what you got, river trash."

He laughed.

"I ain't river trash, come on!"

Pa already hit Huck, Tom picked up the treasure chest.

"You got guts boy, and in a minute, you're gonna be on the ground," Pa said to Huck.

"Let's see you hit this!" Tom shouted.

"No!"

Tom was near the hole, they were both struggling. Pa was on the edge but caught Tom's shirt sleeve. When it was in the process of ripping, I ran, it ripped, I caught Pa's hand in time.

"Get the chest and get help!" I grunted.

"Aquene, what're you doing!?" Huck shouted.

"Just get help! Go, now!"

Tom ran off, Huck stayed.

"Pull me up!" Pa said to me.

"If I pull you up, you'll go after the treasure, if I let you go, you'll die!"

"We'll be rich!"

"I don't care!"

I grabbed his collar with my other hand to keep him from falling.

"You mean more to me than a hunk of treasure Pa! I'm not gonna let you die!"

"You're gonna get me arrested, you know that!"

"I'd rather have you be in a cell than down that hole dead!"

I held on to him until help came. He was arrested.
