The door creaks open, revealing three figures in lab coats, each armed with a clear tablet – a gadget I couldn't help but envy. "Finally! I was a few minutes away from becoming a science project," I quip, attempting to lighten the mood as they approach. My playful remarks meet stoic expressions, making me question if humor is forbidden in their world.
"Is a tough crowd a job requirement here or something?" I tease, noticing a tech trying to suppress a smile. Unperturbed, they focus on unhooking me from an assortment of wires. As the last restraint comes free, I eagerly leap off the bed, still clad in a medical gown, and stretch out my limbs.
Hitting the cold floor, I glance at the charred spot where the EKG met its fiery demise. The curiosity about my peculiar ability lingers as I move to a chair, discovering an all-black armored suit adorned with purple engravings that seem to shimmer as I pick it up.
"You were wearing that when you arrived on Earth," Dr. Strouse reveals with a stern motherly tone, catching me off guard. I startle at her voice, assuming the room was empty post-tech departure. "Even if I'm not from Earth, I think knocking is a universal thing," I retort, turning to face her.
"Maybe, but where's the fun in that?" she smirks. "Are you ready for our adventure, or will you keep staring at your suit?" Caught off guard by my own medicine of snide comments, I hesitantly walk toward Dr. Strouse, ready to embark on whatever awaited us beyond the sterile confines of the hospital room.
