Chapter Twenty-Three
Boardwalk Showdown

It felt like Tilly hadn't been to the carnival in years, which was true, so looking at all the rides and the swarm of people almost made her sick. She didn't know why but what could the girl do other than ignoring it.

"I want some ice cream. Natures air conditioning," Taylor stated as she fanned herself with her hand, still covered in sweat.

"Why'd we come here again? It's hot outside and we are surrounded by hundreds of people," Tilly said as she frowned, looking at the huge crowds.

Belly shook her head in disbelief, "seriously? If we get ice cream will you two start to be more excited?" Taylor and Tilly looked at each other before smiling excitedly at the girl. "And I will take that as a yes!"

Tilly held her vanilla ice cream cup with rainbow sprinkles proudly. It was the same order she got every single time and she was notorious for not letting anyone near it.

"Hey," Taylor said as she pointed at Tilly's ice cream with her spoon. "Can I get some of that? I ran out of sprinkles on mine."

Tilly stared at the girl, "um, sure."

Taylor smiled happily and took some ice cream before quickly moving up the stairs to get to Belly.

"What the fuck," a voice said, making Tilly whip her head around to see Steven staring at her in shock. "You never let anyone have your ice cream!"

Tilly rolled her eyes and shoved the boy, "shut up, Steven."

"Belly, you were so scared you threw up," Jeremiah laughed out just as Tilly caught up to him. "Tilly! You remember right?" He asked his little sister as she stared at him in confusion. "Belly throwing up after riding tower of terror!"

Tilly instantly bursted out into laughter, "holy shit! I almost forgot about that!"

Belly rolled her and elbowed Tilly in the side. "I was sick."

"Sick with fear," Conrad said with an amused smirk. "My mom had to throw out your clothes and carry you home in a caftan."

The four laughed at the memory as Skye smiled. "Susannah used to force my mom to come here when they were kids. My mom always hated it, but Susannah loved it so much, so..." Skyes words immediately made everyone's mood drop, especially Tilly, the girl throwing her ice cream away straight after her cousins statement.

"You know what else my mom loved?" Conrad asked as he kept his head down, clearly annoyed. "The beach house."

Skye shook their head and stopped walking, "my mom's not evil, Conrad. And your mom wasn't a saint," they said, immediately avoiding eye contact with the Fisher siblings right after.

Tilly frowned and stared at the ground in anger. Skye didn't know her mother, they didn't know anything. How could they even say that? Didn't they understand what was happening?

Belly took one look at the siblings before turning to Skye and changing the subject, "Skye, have you ever played Shoot Your Shot?"

"No, and I'm-I'm fine keeping it that way."

"Do you want to see me beat Conrad's ass at it?" Belly asked making everyone laugh.

"Please!" Taylor said excitedly, "I need to see that!" She grabbed Tilly and Belly's hands before dragging them over to the game in excitement.

"How about we start at the arcade?" Tilly asked hesitantly, wanting to escape the heat as soon as possible.

"I'm down," Conrad said with a smirk.
