Chapter 1: Reaping Day

It's been a couple months since the day Peeta and I hugged and I couldn't stop thinking about it. At least once a week I would hangout at the Bakery with Peeta until closing time and walk home with him. We've gotten to know each other a bit more, growing more comfortable with each other. As our friendship slowly grew, so did my crush on him

It was reaping day. I was walking around my very beat up house when I heard a knock on the door. I opened the door and in front of me stood my best friend, Katniss. "Ready to go?" She asked. "When am I not ready?" I chuckled, grabbing my coat from the coat hanger. She smiled and I walked out the door, closing it behind me. "What about your mom?" Katniss asked, pointing at my front door. "She's asleep. She won't wake up till later. Now come on!" I started walking away and towards the woods, which would take a few minutes to get there

Eventually we started jogging, passing by the people of our district. I can feel the muscles in my face relaxing, my pace quickening as I climb the hills to our place, a rock ledge overlooking a valley. A thicket of berry bushes protects it from unwanted eyes. After some traveling, we made it to a hallow log. The log hid our weapons inside it, two bows and some arrows

"I wish I could use my other weapons" I whispered, grabbing my bow and arrows from the branch. "Bow's are good for hunting." Katniss said, taking her bow and arrows out as well. "I guess." We traveled the forest, closely listening for anything we could find. That's when we found a doe. It's head sticking out from beside a tree

Katniss aimed at the doe but it ran away after smelling our scent. "Damn it." I whispered. We grabbed some dirt and leaves from the ground and crunched them in our hands as the wind blew them away, a way to hide our scent. We followed the doe and saw it was hiding behind a tree. I grabbed a pebble and shot it at a nearby tree, causing the deer to move into open area. Katniss aimed at the doe, ready to release her grip on the arrow

"What are you gonna do with that when you kill it?" We heard a voice say behind us. The doe ran away and when we looked back we saw Gale. Gale was one of our friends, well Katniss's friend. I never really liked him, I don't know why so I just try to tolerate him

"Damn you, Gale!" Katniss says, annoyed that he caused the doe to run away. "It's not funny!" I added, also pissed. "What're you gonna do with a 100 pound deer, catnip? It's Reaping Day, the place is crawling with Peacekeepers." He chuckled coming down from the hill, using Katniss's nickname he has for her

"We were gonna sell it, to some Peacekeepers." I said, putting my hands on my hips. "Of course you were." Gale remarked. "Like you don't sell to Peacekeepers." I rolled my eyes. "No! Not today." "It was the first deer we've seen in a year. Now we have nothing." Katniss told him

Gale picks up a rock and throws it, spooking some birds hiding in the bramble. Katniss shoots one and we all chuckle. Suddenly, a futuristic plane flies above us and forces us to hide. "Oh no. Peeta." I whispered to myself. "What?" Gale looked at me confused. "I uhh... have to go." I slowly started to walk away. "Where are you going?!" Katniss whisper shouted. "I'm sorry. I'll see you later. Trade those berries Katniss!" I shouted; and with that, I ran back to the town leaving Gale and Katniss in the woods

I ran back into the woods, putting my bow and arrows back into the log. While I was making my way back to town I couldn't help but think of Peeta. Luckily, I made it back to town unseen. I ran to the bakery to see Peeta walking out

"Peeta!" I shouted, waving my hands around, out of breathe from the running. "Y/n?" He quickly turned his head to my direction. I ran up to him and put my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breathe. "Are you okay?" He chuckled. I stood up straight and took a deep breathe to calm my racing heart
